  • Help me please

I've only been playing about a year, but i'm having a problem. I have a good aim, but when i hit the cueball, it tends to go slightly off to either side of where i'm aiming. Recently I've noticed that I've not been striking the cueball down the centre and therefore putting left or right side on it.

Does anyone have any tips/techniques to help me hit the cueball accuratley, consitently.

Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks

An old technique used to be used to be to get a bottle on the table and practice cueing into the neck.

Another one is to cue the white along the baulk line.

      Good advice Chelsea

The advantage of cueing along the baulkine is that you can see the shadow of your cue on the line and can quickly see if you're hitting across the line

hitting across the line - ie not drawing back and fore in a straight line is themost common reason for sending your cue ball off line - as you push it to one side rather than striking through it and all sorts of nasty bits of side come into play

another exercise is cueing from brown spot and up down over the spot.. it immediately shows you which way your pushing the ball...

to try and get onto the right line - stand back, well back, from the table and walk in right behind the line of the shot and keep your cue on that line and get down...
a lot of people tend to sort of sidle sideways into the shot and that's not a good idea.

bestof all.. book a coaching lesson with a QUALIFIED coach, who will identify your problems and give you the correct exercises to correct them.

If you want a list of coaches in your area/country by all means contact us direct at the EBSA Coaching Foundation and we'll try and help you... you can email us at terrygriffiths@globalsnookercentre.co.uk
you can also send Terry your coaching questions which will be ansered and shown on the Matchroom website... only coaching questions not autograph request or anything else though..

Tried the bottle trick (had to drink a few bottles of beer to find one that would sit right ), anyway 99% of the time it flew in and out without touching the time. Tried running the white ball along the baulk line and up and down the spots, had a fairly good success rate, but for some reason i can't keep up the good work when playing a game. . I think I might be better off having a couple of sessions with a coach, does anybody know of any in the merseyside/west lancs area??

        Cheers

do you keep your chin on the cue after you have struck the cue ball ?
( its important to keep your head down when striking the cue ball )

do you have the cue brushing against the side of your body while cuing back and forwards ?

What is the hard line on the chin and side of body? I always keep my chin on the cue which has helped me keep the cue in line but I also often hit my side with my right hand (i'm right handed). Is this a bad thing? I always have the cue brushing my side and I can't work out if it's good or bad...

the cue brushing against the side of the body is a good thing , it keeps the cue from moving off line . also your hand should reach your body.

you need to make sure you have enough space between your back arm (hand that holds the cue ) and your body, the right amount of space required is enough that you can move your back arm back and forth when cuing up and also extra space so once you have struck the cue ball, the cue tip has got through the cue ball at least 4-5 inches , your hand should finish moving when it reaches your body.

I hope this makes sense ....

hope to communicate with all of you

Hi, I am from Shanghai, China. You can say I am a snooker lover. I'd like to come here often to learn the good experience from all of you.

For the question, when you are aiming the bottem of the cue ball but not the central, you should make sure that your back arm is low enough to make the cue parallel the table, or you might hit the cue ball to jump, or let it off the line you want it to be on; Also you should make sure you have the right method when cuing as others said.
