  • How To Select A Cue?

    Hi people,

new in the forum, so hopefully u guys are able to give some advice.

had been playing snooker for about 3 years plus and i think its time for me to get a personal cue.

the market for snooker cues in Singapore is a little small therefore cant get as many brands and models as compared to the UK.

i need advice from all of ya on how to select a cue before parting with my money. like as in anything i gotta take note of, the size of the tip, the butt, the wood used etc.. just anything..

    thanks alot!!

    Hi RB,

Why don´t you try the Qshop in Bras Basah complex, ask for Gregory he will advise you and has a good range of quality English and Thai snooker cues.

West Coast snooker centre also has the complete range of Mastercue at very competitive prices.

    Best of luck

        Don´t know that shop,

I do know that when buying a mastercue you cant go far wrong for the money, in fact they build a very good cue.

At West coast you will be able to try the cue before you buy

The main thing is that you feel comfortable with it, and the cue is not covered in sticky varnish

quickie seeing as JayJay has some good local knowledge; with 3 years experience you'll know what weight & size of butt you want and from your previous cue whether your tip is too big or small; large gives better accuracy but less spin and the other way round; 10mm is average, mines 9 and I've seen a ridiculous 6mm. Set a budget and it'll be best if you can visit a shop or club and try a few out, you'll get a feeling which suits your game. Asking around in your club might provide some decent secondhand cues if you let everyone know you're looking for one. Don't forget a decent case and if it's a 2-piece cue, it'll be easier to carry round. The type of tip and how you prepare it will help your positional play too.
Head Still... Follow Through... Keep it Tight... Never Give Up... Ton 'em if you can!

Would recommend either a master cue or john parris. Not sure which of the two is better though.

Ebay is definitely a good option.

A lot of chinese 3/4s with mini butt doing the rounds at the mo, look a good cue as long as they don´t go over 50 quid.

I think they are the same cues that were doing the rounds 2 years ago with a JP badge.

snooker_loopy has a good selection and prices

The only problem with these cues though jayjay is that for every good quality one you get 5 pretty poor ones and thats why buying of Ebay is too much of a gamble for me. Stick to ordering from somewhere like Craftsman or Mastercraft if you want a quality stick at a sensible price.
