Curtis, does the 'B' in CBSA refer to billiards as in English-Billiards, or to one of the varieties of pool?

There is an English-Billiards league in Canada - Winnipeg Veteran's English Billiards League but not sure if it is played anywhere else???

I think the B in these associations (all over the world) mean English Billiards.

I believe billiards is referred to all cue sports in this incident, it is an inclusive term, not specifically referred to the discipline of English billiards.

I can tell everyone (as President of the OBSA) the 'B' is for all billiards and is an inclusive term, however English-style billiards is not played very much in Canada (except perhaps around Winnipeg) so the 'B' now mostly represents 9-ball, 8-ball and now 10-ball.

To bad they ,OBSA, lost your imput in that organization. You seemed to have done alot
and got nothing but grief. I always found it interesting how others in that organization,
Snooker director, or whatever he calls himself, and the player rep
got a free trip to Vegas, to play the Americans while two of the other team mates had
to pay there own way.
I guess if the player rep. continues at this present level in that league it won't matter
because he like the Snooker Director will get a free entry in the Canadians?[granted he
would get in I guess based on his rank in the last Canadians.
Will you play in the OBSA again, frankly they don't deserve to even watch you play.

What's even worse is they've now changed things and will pay the tournament director to run the tournaments. I don't know whether he will be allowed to play in them or not.

Amazing, a service I provided for free at a lot of personal cost to me in both time and money will now be paid for by the members, which means they will either have to increase the entry fee or else take it out of the prize money at each tournament. They will also be paying the statistician for his work.

This probably makes more sense but I would still like to see if there are any 'free' spots to the Canadians and who is getting them for what efforts as it originally was for Odie to both organize the venues and sponsorship AND to be the tournament director at each one. Of the 25 tournaments held to date over the past 3 seasons I have organized 14 of them I think, with 7 still to go for this season. I still had to qualify for my spot in the Canadians however.

I will continue to play in them but just as a normal player with no tournament responsibilities.

You of all people know that the members have no interest in doing anything but taking advantage of playing time, and they may be too cheap to pay the extra fees.

Not to paint with a large brush, but I always found it interesting how Snooker is considered a gentlemanly sport, but a lot of the members in the OBSA sure have not demonstrated that type of behaviour or been generous in doing anything for the league.

Terry, what are the prerequisites for enlisting as a competitor? My friend and I would like to play competitively, time-permitting, because we live in the Toronto area, where most ranked tournaments seem to take place.

The only requirement is that you are an Ontario resident as these tournaments are to qualify Ontario players for the Canadian Championships, which will be held in Ontario in June 2010.

The next tournament is Jan 8/9 at the Annex Snooker Club at 507 Bloor St W (Green P parking is one block west)

Dress regulations are relaxed, golf shirt (or shirt with collar), dress pants and dress shoes (that take polish) or if you prefer to wear a vest (waistcoat) then you have to wear a long-sleeved dress shirt.

If associations take to much for admin and expenses, the association cannot survive.

Where have you been wayync? There has been an annual Canadian Championship held forever, however a lot of provinces just don't have the players nor is there someone to organize it for them.

Nova Scotia has the Maritime Open and the Provincial Championships, usually organized by Ray Saunders. New Brunswick also has provincial championships and Quebec has too.

Ontario has 12 ranking tournaments per season plus one for the 'A'-players only to qualify for the Canadians.

Forget Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia but Brad Grierson has been organizing qualifiers in Alberta for a couple of seasons now, usually held in Red Deer.

Instead of complaining about a lack of tournaments why don't some of the players go out and organize tournaments? All you need is a facility and some energy although of course some sponsorship would help.

Gotta ask the question...why can Ontario hold 13 tournaments per year (along with a bunch of invitational ones) and except for Quebec and Nova Scotia why can't other provinces do something similar.

The reason is not one person is willing to step up and volunteer his time to do the organizing and that's why snooker is going downhill in Canada.
