I think pro's in the 70's and 80's often held their breath when playing Bill Werbinuik, as he was known to let the odd one rip !!

No, of course, you don't have to hold your breath when cueing. But you can hold it quickly on the very last backswing and expire when shooting the ball, like in martial arts (of course, not as strongly! lol).
