  • Has anyone heard of this?

I saw an eye dominance thread here and I have an ability that I never hear mentioned when it comes to eye dominance. People talk about left, right or centred dominance but I have never seen mentioned the ability to choose which eye you use as your dominant eye.

My father and myself have the ability to select which eye we use as our dominant eye - left or right not both. We are not centred dominance - its one or the other. I use my left eye for Golf and my right eye for Snooker. My right eye is my default eye but I can swap to my left eye and back when I like.

So when I do the eye test to see which eye is dominant I can select one eye and keep my finger on the point of aim and then shut the other eye (and switch eyes) and still have my finger on the point of aim.

Well guess we all learned something new.. Haha..

most people, whether they have a dominant eye, or both "equal", will be able to select any of their two eyes and use that as a dominant eye. its not new.

        Huh?

If most people can select which eye they use, why have a dominance test? Not to be rude but duh..

            Easy fixed

If you can do it - you can make the finger move off the aim point without closing an eye.. If you have to close an eye, you cant do it..

Easy way to see if most people can do it.. Case closed..

i am slightly right eye dominant

i can use my left eye as the dominant eye
i can use my right eye as the dominant eye
i can use both eyes as equal dominance

              effectively good at all 3

              case still far from closed

I for one can't pass max's test in post 6, at least not without getting some serious double vision. Maybe it'd be possible to train the eye into it as I think I can pull the right muscles, it's just a strain.

Semih, when you say you can use left/right/centre vision, do you actually mean you're using that eye as your dominant eye, or are you just putting your cue under it? If the latter then yes I think everyone can do that with some degree of success, but the former, actually being able to switch the eye that the brain treats as dominant, isn't a skill everyone has. I'd be interested to know how many people can do this as Max describes.

robert, yes i meant i could do all 3. its not easy, but im sure its not that uncommon. thing is, even a lot of really good players who havent had coaching dont fully undersand dominant eyes, never mind know how to test for it, and use it with a degree of more success.
