  • 145+ breaks

David Gray became the seventh player ever to make a 146 in tournament play. Who are the other six and when/who did did they play?

Anyone got any info on how many 145's there have been made, by whom/date/opponent?

I can tell you two of the 146s: Stuart Bingham made one in Embassy qualifying, the only one in World Championship history – ironically it was not the highest break overall that year because it was 2005, the year of Williams's Crucible maximum.

I was in the arena for Shephen Hendry's 146 in the final frame of the 1995 UK final at Preston Guild Hall – of course, the frame he needed for the title.

Quick respone, thank you. I think I got a tape of Barry Hawkins make one as well, in 2005. Or was that a 145?

As for the 145's, there must be dozens of them.

Paul Hunter (Premier League 2005) and Brian Morgan (Asian Classic 1996) are two others.

That leaves one (two) more players.

          145's:

Ken Doherty (Daily Record Players Championship 2004), Joe Perry (World Championship 2004), Matthew Stevens (Grand Prix 1996), Anthony Hamilton (World Championship 1995) and Steve Davis (UK Championship 2005) are some of them.

Doug Mountjoy made a 145 (or was it Bill Werbeniuk?) in 1981 at the Crucible – an outright World Championship record until beaten by Cliff Thorburn's 147 two years later.

You have to be careful in assuming that because David Gray was the sixth player to make one, then there have only been six. Someone could have made more than one, remember. (Like 5 players have made a Crucible maximum, but there have been 6 in total.)

Thank you. Altought I said "that leaves one (two) more players", not "that leaves one (two) more breaks"

But it's not very likely that likely that someone has made more than one 146, is it?

Oh yes, I realised that was what you said, just clarifying.

It is unlikely, but not impossible.

I do believe that Bingham's was in fact in 2003 (17 March) - I did not see it but did arrive that night at the Palace Hotel, Torquay, where the final rounds of the World Championship qualifiers were being played, in order to Steve Davis triumph over Ryan Day the following day.

This, of course, is true - 2003 being the year of O'Sullivan's first Crucible maximum!

So Hendry in fact made 2 146's in the same year even though there have only ever been seven in history.

(At the time it would have been even less.)
