  • Who broke Alain Robidoux's cue?

I've just been reminded of how it's said that a cue doctor smashed Alain Robidoux's cue after seeing a Riley sticker on it!
Alain couldn't get on with another cue and that was the end of him!
Is this all true, who smashed the cue?

When I last heard this story it was his manager who broke the cue...
Maybe we should ask Alain himself

It was a cue maker who smashed his cue, he took offence to the Riley sticker on it and smashed it up. It ended Robidoux's career really because he was never the same player after that. Can't help you with the person in question though, I believe he was a french-canadian like Robidoux, it definitely wasn't a English cue maker.

Alain had just reached the World Semi-finals at the Crucible too.

Great shame really, as he was the sort of hard working, honest pro, who you could never begrudge any success which came his way.

This was a terrible thing to happen and Alain never really recovered.

He was in the best spell of his career at the time and looked like he could have been in the top-16 for a good few more years.

Anyone know what he's upto these days?

Alain dropped off the main tour at the end of 2003-2004 season - not sure what he is up to now though

Alain won the Quebec open last year, losing only three frames in the entire tournament, while making a the tournament's highest break, a 136, as well as 3 more centuries.

Interestingly, Cliff Thorburn also played in this tournament.

He's also won the Hafa invitational 3 times out of the last 6 times it was held. So it's good to see he's still playing. Come on, Alain!
