  • Ranking poingts in the Malta cup

In the drawsheet for the Malta cup it shows Andrew Higgingson as a wild card player. Does this mean that he will not receive ranking points for this tournament?

When Ding Junhui won the China open a couple of years ago, he did not receive any ranking points as he was a wild card player. Is it the same case with Andrew Higginson?

Andrew Higginson is not a wild card player. He qualified through from the last 96 and he played Simon Zammit (a wild card player) as he was one of the two lowest ranked players so he will therefore receive all ranking points and prize money

Yes, I saw that he had played all the 4 qualifying rounds, but as I could not find him in the official rankings (only 77 there) I thought he also might be a WC player.

      Thanks for your answer.

The BBC report on yesterday's play made the same mistake with regard to David Roe. It says "Peter Ebdon also nearly made an early exit as he trailed 4-1 to wildcard David Roe ..." which is not the case – Roe was not a wildcard, but as one of the two lowest-ranked qualifiers he was required to play a wildcard in the wildcard round.

but neither David Roe nor Andrew Higginson are in the 77 ranked players' list in the official rankings of www.worldsnooker.com

I would ignore that list completely, a much more reliable source of rankings are on www.globalsnookercentre.co.uk.

David Roe is on that list at number 56. Andrew Higginson is not on it because he only qualified for the main tour 96 this season. That list is basically last seasons list and has not been updated with the new players.
