  • rules question

    Hi everybody,

I played snooker yesterday. hooray and lost

    Anyway, the following problem occured:
Black was on, hubby played black, but touched a red with the cue rest
I thought I deserved 7 points for this foul, he said it's only 4
    Who's right?
    Thanks!

Definitely 7 points, as the black ball was on. And any foul that happens then is 7 points.

This is a 7 point penalty.

The ruling would be 'the value of the ball on or ball concerned, whichever is the higher'.

Unfortunately once you've accepted whatever mutual decision you come to and have played the next shot any error is condoned regardless of its accuracy.

I wouldn't have won with the additional 3 points anyway. However, the score would have been even closer as he won on the final black!

              Rules Question

You were correct. It is a foul and the penalty is seven points.

Section 12 refers to penalties as either the ball on (in this case the black) or ball concerned whichever is the highest. So had hubby been going for the yellow and touched the black, the penalty would still have been 7.

              Hope this helps.
