  • The Flexi-Rest

    Hi

I am sure a few of you saw The Big Idea on SKY ONE. A guy called Des Morley invented a product called the Flexi-Rest which I think will revolutionise snooker. It has been passed for use in EBSA events and has been demonstarted on BBC by Steve Davis and John Parrott.

If you haven't seen one then here if you have played with one let me know what you think. The rest can be used to replace all 5 of the existing rests available.

When I first saw it I was a bit sceptical due to the fact that the "arm" is flexible however having now seen one in the flesh and tried it out once the arm has been moved to the desired position the rest is still solid enough to not move on the shot.

    Anyway any thoughts?

Steve Davis seems to be the only player who uses these innovations, and even he uses them very rarely. I've only seen him use the hook rest a couple of times and on one occasion ive seen him use that little black cross that fits on one of the rest crosses to give a bit extra height.

So i would ask what is the need for the flexi rest. Even if it was introduced to the main tour would anyone actually use it.

To be a bit more positive though, I suppose it might just prove to be the ideal thing in that very rare circumstance when nothing else would do, and the shot could just not be played otherwise without the aid of this new thing.

I think the idea is that you can do away with the spider, the extended spider, and all those, and only need the one rest.

That is exactly the idea Elvaago.

Whether he has pulled it off I am not sure but it is a great product and one that I think we will see moving into the future.

          Looks good T_T.

in fact, it looks very good, but i still dont think itll "do away" with a normal rest.

perhaps replace things like the spider, swan neck etc....

can just picture it on bbc now, with a small clip put together of all the players re-shaping it and the music in the background "singing" - 'bend me shape me any way you want me....'

          hope it is succesful

            I agree Semih

I think the standard Cross Rest will still win in most situations but at least with the Flexi-Rest you would eliminate the other 4!

Here's a video of the Flexi-rest in action, if anybody is interested.

I think it's a great innovation, and deserves to be a success.

                  flexi rest

i was the first to use flexi rest in the heat of the battle during the european amateur championships. it had been introduced to the players during the opening ceremony. during one of my group games i had a shot that required the rest.it was game ball. i was up against the cush, bridging over another ball. to get to the cue ball i would have had to use the spider and balanced it on one leg to get the cue far enough to the left to hit the centre of the white.[bare with me here, it was a nightmare of shot to have to play!] i thought i'd give the flexi rest a go. i had never used it before. i bent it into the correct position and potted game ball. it had made the shot easy.i know this is an extreme situation .flexi rest will never replace the conventional rest or the spider but it could replace the extended spider, swan neck and do away with balancing anything on one leg!

We have one of these at our club that I purchased off ebay, I do actually prefer it to the conventional spider, as you can adjust it according to wherever the balls may lie whereas you are sometimes restricted with the other equipment.

It does seem it failed to take off though, as have not heard of anyone using it lately, I do remember the endorsements from Steve Davis and the use of it in the Premier League. Thought it might have gained some momentum.

I am thinking of buying this. Has anyone used it recently? Looks like a good idea to me.

Never seen that before. I would be scared of the head moving on the shot, maybe not when you first get it but would it loosen up over time?

I take it, it didn't catch on as it made its debut in 2007.

I have the same question too. I hope someone who uses it can shed some light. I want to buy a couple of these for personal use.

I have two, been using them for years.
and yes, they are the only rest you ever need.
