Re-tipping cues....any tips?

As above - pardon the pun - I have ordered a boxwood clamp and tip cement. However, having never done it before, I was wondering if anyone had any good advice for ensuring a successful re-tip (got someone at the local club to do it last night - left it an hour to dry and thought it'd be ok, but it came off when putting extreme topspin on the white).

Guy at the store recommended sanding the underside of the tip before glueing. Also seen some advice on here about scoring it as well. Also saw someone say that a thin layer of dried superglue helps it hold?

I searched the forum, but couldn't find any specific threads. Do you have a set process, or is it a trial and error process? Any and all help greatly appreciated

1. Cut off old tip.
2. Clean off old glue and remains of old tip. ( scrape with craft knife blade )
3.Make sure top of cue and ferrule is perfectly level. (this can be done with cue top sander for best results.)
4.level back of tip with abrasive paper, on a level surface holding tip between thumb and forefinger.
5.Apply glue to top of cue. ( Ideally 2-part epoxy resin glue, such as Araldite or gel superglue if in a hurry )
6.Gentley place tip on glue and center up. Press down firmley. Wipe off excess glue then gently release pressure. Leave overnight for glue to cure.
7.Turn cue upside down on cutting board and trim off excess tip to size of ferrule.
8.With a flat file shape a rough dome on tip, filing from centre of tip to outside edge.
9.With fine abrasive paper smooth sidewall of tip into ferrule, making sure not to touch the wood of the shaft bellow the ferrule.
10.Finnish off dome with a tip shaper

cue tipping

here goes m8. first make sure the top of ur cue is flat and u have got rid of all the old glue and remnants of ur old tip. i use a file. now forget about the clamp and cement,they're worse than useless.sand the bottom of ur tip,this makes sure its flat and aids the bonding. get urself some superglue gel.this stuffs brilliant.when u apply it to the ferrull and stick ur tip on u will have enough time to centralise the tip. hold the tip down with ur fingertip. in a few seconds u will have such a strong bond the only way ur tip will come off is when u rip it off too replace it.shape it the way u like it and bobs ur uncle. hope this helps.

As said above don't use tip cement. Get hold of some Loctite super clue (about £3.50 for 5 grammes)

Follow the steps above but after you have smoothed both surfaces ready to apply the glue make some slight cuts in to both surfaces and brush away any remnants. This trick allows the glue to seep deeper in to the cue so the tip effectively becomes part of the cue. (if that makes sense)

When done properly the tip will never come off and will wear all the way down to the ferrule. After you have re-tipped it don't use spin for a while. Just play plain ball with pace and check the tip often to see if there are any gaps. If there are try to put some glue inside using a needle and then apply pressure. It takes practice to put on tips well but I think its important for any player to learn to do it themsleves.
