3/4 cues

Is there any different in a 3/4 cue that is butted at 16" to one that is butted at 12" if there is can you explain please

PS craftsman cue do a Special cue at 14.5"

i think I'll ring the shop up tomorrow and have a chat maybe even the order of a new cue too I'm thinking of there special cue cos thats butted between the two stand length

The main differences will be weight and balance although this can depend also on the density of the woods in use.

One thing that I can say is that generally in a 16" jointed cue you are getting more butt wood! So better value in that repect!!!

I have found the 16" jointed cues tend to be a bit more butt heavy.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with the above comments entirely.

So many factors are involved when assessing cues, so only general guidance can be given in many ways.

A cue with a longer butt length is no better 'value' than one with a shorter butt. Also, a cue with a longer butt section (say 16") is not necessarily going to be more butt heavy, as a cue with a joint at 12" or 14" has the 1.5 - 2oz of brass (weight of the joint) that much closer to the butt end.

A well bult 3/4 cue with a standard butt length of approx 16" should be balancing somewhere between 16" and 18"...ish, from the butt end of the cue.

A cue that has a weight much further back of 16" is getting a bit butt heavy, and likewise, a cue with a balance point forward of about 18 -18.5" is getting shaft heavy.

Not that this really means the cue won't play ok, it's just that it can introduce issues that many would like to avoid in a cue (without getting into boring details).

btw i love stiff hits, i out of confident with my previous 1 pc mastercue now feel whippy to me.. may be time to go for jointed cue

i can see no reason why this would be stiffer

Longer than usual butt splices do make for a slightly stiffer cue.

16 Inch joint is my ideal with a 17 1/2 balance point.
