  • Help Please!

    Evening all

I need help on trying to play well in games.
On a friday night, i go to my local pub and play snooker with a bunch of 65 year olds, (im 20), but i always end up losing, i know in my head i am pretty decent player, but i never play to my potential on a friday night, no idea why.
Just so you know the standard of where i play, if you make a 30 break, they think you are a good player. 20s and 30s are reletavily rare ish for the pub, i have made a 30 odd a few times there.
When me and m8s play tho i just blitze them pretty much but i struggle on a friday night, the setup is, doubles on a friday night (cuz its usually busy), sometimes i get to play singles occationly, i nearly always win on those though...so,

Could anyone give any hints or like good tactics in a game of doubles?
like i said, i am not to bad on singles, but on a friday night doubles i never seem to do That well and its really dissapointing sometimes. (The table is a 8 foot table)

    Advice for doubles

I've never really like playing doubles. The fact you have to wait up to 3 turns before it's your shot means that your unlikely to be ready for the shot when it's your turn. Here's a few tips though:

Get your best player to take his turn after the weakest player who is your opposition - the theory is that the weaker player is more likely to miss and set you up with an easier shot.

Concentrate harder then if your playing on your own - out of every 4 turns you only get one visit so make the most of it.

An 8ft table is small for a snooker table. If your balls are in proportion to the table they will be smaller than full size balls. Using a standard 9.5mm snooker cue will make it harder to control the smaller balls. Use a cue that has a smaller diameter and you will find it easier to get better cue ball control and it will be easier to line up shots.

Hope that helps you kick some butts in the pub, let me know how you get on!!

      Help Please

I would rather follow the [I]best[I] player. There is more chance of being left up because he would have played for position (if he had gone for and missed a pot).
If you follow the weaker player, he doesn't have much idea of playing for position. So, the chances are, that if he did miss a pot, everything would be 'safe'.

Personal choice really, and also depends how 'good' or 'weak' your opponents are.
You are only the best on the day you win.
