  • Ambidextrous Players

OK. So following on from the thread about left handed players at the Crucible, apart from Ronnie, has there ever been anyone else who can play just as well with their left hand (or right if naturally left handed), i.e. make breaks of 50+?
You are only the best on the day you win.

The only one I've ever seen to play shots with his left hand is Matthew Stevens. However, he missed more shots compared to what he potted. But it seems he is still more confident playing left-handed shots than using the rest. That always reminds me of what Joe Johnson said on Eurosport: "Matthew Stevens absolutely haaaaaaates the rest. If I were his coach, I wouldn't let him play a single shot without it." The way he said it really made me chuckle.

Apart from Stevens, I can only think of Hawkins who is naturally left-handed but plays all his rest shots right-handed . Does anybody know why, btw?

I'm left-handed for writing, play snooker right-handed. When I use the rest, I also use my left-hand. I find it also very strange...
I'll play the black in the middle, one-handed.

dont know why...perhaps did it "naturally" as a youngster and just continued.

during the china event the commentators mentioned about 4 players (past included i think) who do/did this.

Tony Meo and Dean Reynolds were/are lefties but played with the rest right handed.

            As does Mark Williams.
            1994 a good year
            The Masters a great event
            The Final a marvellous match
            The Winner a snooker genius
            Alan McManus The Winner
            Stephen Hendry The Loser

            1994 a good year....

I believe Shaun Murphy also played a few shots left handed in one or more of the tournaments, can't remember which but it was sometimes last year... he seemed comfortable with it, although no one matches the Rocket when it comes to ambidextrous

I'm right-hand, play snooker both hands (though my right is stronger) and eat as a lefty...

All players sometimes use other hand, but they play much worse with that 'other' hand
I can only play by right hand, by left I won't hit a ball next to cue-ball

mark williams plays left handed but where the cue would be if he were right handed by putting the cue right under his body - no idea how he does that i have tried and its impossible!

I can play with both hands, at least feel it equally comfortable to do so with either left or right (I chose to play with my left primarily), but then my standard is so bad that don't think I can say I'm a player

Actually Ronnie Is Not Ambidexterous He Has Just Found That The Game Is So Damned Easy For Him The Drop Is Standard He Gets From Playing Left Handed Still Makes Him Bloody Brilliant !
