  • Best Single Ball Potter

I've never really understood what 'Best Single Ball Potter' means?
Surely, all pots are single-ball pots, right? Unless, of course, you fluke two reds in the one shot.

It means you can pot a single ball to an unbelievable high standard but you can't necessarily string a series of pots together as in building a break.

Robertson was challenging him for the title a few years ago. Not so much recently.

As was Trump, who also can pot unbelievable balls, but as Williams is a bit careless with the cueball sometimes.

But Williams holds this title in my books.

              Perrie Mans!

Breaks weren't part of his game plan. He'd pot a ridiculous ball and if he happened to land on another one, he'd pot that too!

Ah the good olde days: I'll toss in Cliff Wilson then.

Am I missing an "in the know" joke here?

The year he won the world's, Shaun Murphy's potting was some of the best I've ever seen. I'd much rather he'd kept that level of attack more in his game as he got older, might have won a bit more

To my mind single ball potter means not playing position for the next and there have been several players who fall into that category, Bill Werbeniuk, Perrie Mans, Cliff Wilson spring to mind, but they were famous for their power long potting. Mark Williams simply rolls them in pocket weight from anywhere and is unique in that.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

So, to call someone the 'Best Single Ball Potter' is a back-handed compliment, right?
Great potter but not a great snooker player, right?
Yet Mark Williams just became World Snooker Champion.

                            Best Single Ball Potter

I think it's player who can make a recovery shot or pot from a very difficult position with a very high %. Mark Williams would be fitting that bill

I prefer the term 'Best Potter'. It's simple and clear.
                              Let's leave out single-ball.
