watching it on ES Player - Selby looks to clean up, one red left - 67-31 …

last red now sitting over yellow pocket for a long pot by JW... it's in!
    with a blue, and a down-the-middle snooker
Selby misses with too much swerve

after many attempts for snookers, getting some, it was too late, Selby nabs it

Good effort from Jimmy, some nice snookers laid by him in the final frame, but to no avail. 5 - 2 Selby.

Anybody have any idea why Brecel qualified for the Indian Open and then didn't even enter the next two qualifiers.

He is scheduled to play Joe O'Conner and I think this could be a "heldover" match for this event.
And also for the European Masters.

Looks like he's playing Ian Burns in round 1:

You're right. They are both held over to the main venue. This whole system of one qualifying round being held earlier at a separate venue and some matches being held over is really dumb in my opinion. Some guys travel to China (or wherever) already having won a match and others don't. It usually tends to be the superstars or local players that start in the main venue. It's unusual for a player like Brecel to be in that situation for two tournaments, when Selby, Murphy, and Robertson are playing QR1 now. There must be more to the story or some reason why that's happening.

I understand the holdover to lommel being his home country but China Championship when many top players are not? maybe he was specifically asked for by the sponsors?

It's because he's the defending champion there.

The defending champion, World Champion and the two highest ranked players from the host country have their first round matches held over to the main venue at certain overseas ranking events.
