Smile Taking your time and concentrating

    Hi everyone,

Right..... I feel i rush far too many shots. I take certain shots for granted and also dont give enough shots 100% concentration/effort.

This is a massive problem i have and i need some help to start get me potting more balls.

Is there any advice you'd give me to help me improve this side of my game because i feel its holding me back.

    Cheers,

    Nick

All of us nonprofesionals have the same problem. Simply, we can't concentrate as much as the pro's because we don't live from snooker/pool. If that was your profession, then you would probably not have this problem. Also you don't have any pressure or responsibility towards the TV auditorium or the crowd to keep you concentrated.

    hi nick

The most frustrating thing with the game of snooker is when you miss, such is nature of the game that when your opponent is at the table you have to sit there and suffer. Concentration is important, but so is technique, try to practice a bit more on your own and develop your cue action. The more confidence you have in that, the more consistent you will play. Best of luck

the most frustrating thing in snooker is when you have preapared a shot precisely and you have looked at the angles and the position after the shot et cetera. then when you are going to take the shot you are concentrating long and then when you hitting you having a bad contact with the white ball and you missing the pot . at that time I wonder why I started to play snooker

The solution is to put 100% concentration into every shot, and not just the easy ones. This is where most folk go wrong. Try it!

    Hi there,

A good tip is to try and develop a pre-shot routine, for example, chalk cue, stand behind shot, look at angle etc, don't take ages but you should find your rhythm.

    HI Nick,
one thing that can also help you is always feather the same number of times for every shot.

    Hi Nick,
When you do the line up, how many reds on average do you pot before you miss? Do you notice that your match highest break is around that same number of reds?
Try to find that out. Usually, you miss not because you do not know the shot but because of a lack of focus. And if you keep a record, and try to beat that record, it will help to train you to keep focusing longer.
In order to make a big break, you need to focus for a certain period of time. If you are not used to do that, you will miss after a few pots, no matter how easy the shot is. You need to train your mind to focus, because it is not something that comes naturally.
Once you are used to making some sizable breaks with the line up, then you will feel more comfortable in a real game, because you are used to focusing longer.
I tend to focus on just the shot at hand when I am "in the zone" and I do not think much about the shot I had or the one coming up. I will focus on the potting angle, the amount of follow through, and my strike point on the cue ball, then I just try to deliver my cue smoothly. Sometimes, i cannot remember a single shot I made after a break.
Sometimes, i will keep shooting, and then all the sudden realized that the reds were all gone and I was on the colors.
