Well, I've finally got myself booked in for some proper coaching with PJ Nolan in a few weeks time. Can't wait to see what he finds wrong with my game and hopefully I'll start knocking in bigger breaks again.

Has anyone here ever been coached by him?

Dear Jarcher,
I have had coaching from PJ (last time was December 2010 in Syria) and I can tell you he is a great coach who cuts to the chase and works with each player in developing good fundamentals and allowing the natural flair of the player to come through. He breaks each point down and gets the player to play positive and naturally on specific training routines.
I am sure you will enjoy your time with PJ and learn a lot. He is a great person and communicates his views in a great manner. Coaching with him will give you loads of knowledge and motivation to continue practising and improving.
Personally I owe a lot to PJ as he has helped me enormously during the last 5 years.

Went for first session with PJ last year. Amazing session. 2hrs fly in and got a great DVD to bring home to review main points check if u don't remember something.

Defo some of the best money I have spent on snooker! Working on one or two things and once they are natural I will be straight back out to him!

PJ is Ireland's leading coach and he was in Qatar for years where he coached the national team. He has a magnificent program and great routines which will gradually bring you from one step to the next. He designed it himself and its a credit to him. Ive seen players improvements after a couple of sessions with PJ and he has a gift of giving confidence to people because he goes into the psychology behind the game and how to develop that into your playing. You wont be let down once you follow his advice.

hey guys, sorry for the late reply on this, but I made the trip down to Carlow to go see PJ and all I can say is... very very worthwhile

We started things off doing a few routines so that he could see where I was going wrong... all whilst being recorded... he then showed me a few small minor adjustments to make and wow... my accuracy was suddenly improved, though there was a downside... I had soooo much more cue power and found it difficult to control the white, which is what I'm now working on via some of the coaching booklets he gave me.

All in all, he was very pleased with my knowledge of what I was trying to correct, the tables, and things which face us when coming to matches... he also said that my cueing, line of aim, bridge distance, stance etc was all perfect... where I really fell back was getting my tip to the cue ball.

By this I mean, when I was getting down on the shot, my tip was a couple of inches away from the white, then, by the time I was striking the white, I was nearly a third of the way through my follow through, which is generally where your cue can go offline. By focusing on getting down on the shot with my tip nearly touching the white... at this point, my arm would be nearly vertical at the point of impact and also gave me a better follow through, more accuracy... and a LOT more cue power.

Within a few weeks, I've started hitting more regular breaks, not massive, but more regular, though I have had a 67 in practice, 2 frames later had a 60 in a match, then a 70 in practice a few days later with 102 on a lineup.

He's put a recording of it onto youtube... let me know what you guys think... and no slagging on my positional play lol... it's being worked on lol

PS. if there is anyone here from Northern Ireland that would like to avail of PJ's coaching, he has agreed to use Eddie Irvine Sports in Bangor as his northern coaching ground. It is my aim for him to be in the north at least once per month to coach 4-5 players a time for 2hrs each, so if you're interested, let me know and I can get something arranged. We are currently setting out 4 match / coaching tables with tournament lighting and underslate heating, so the facilities will be good.

That's wicked to hear that he's done the business for mate and improved your game..... I've heard a lot of good things about his coaching!!
