    Default Improving your Game

Hi, does anyone know which are the good snooker videos/DVDs out which are any good at showing you basics etc of the game, i have been on amazon, and the steve davis how to play snooker looks pretty good, i may get that.

Also...i play snooker at a pub on a friday night, and well,, i wouldnt say im brilliant, but on my day im pretty decent, break of 30 (good for the pub i go to!) , me vs a bunch of 60 year olds.....im 20 years old.

But one of them pointed out i was like doing something extremely wrong, i didnt think so, the guy thought everyone should hold the cue like WAYYYYYY in from the end, how does one get a vertical back arm when holding the cue 1 or 2 inches in from the butt or right at the end, becuase i think i got a veryyyy long backswing on almost everyshot!

Quite simply, either with a shorter cue or with a longer arm!

You SHOULD have a vertical cue-arm, no matter how long your arm/cue. That is what I am led to understand, anyway.

"Snooker - basic skills" is by far the best instruction video I have seen, and I've seen a fair few. It's very thorough and well worked-out IMO. I can upload it if you like.

Also, what good practice routines can you do to test your cue action? , a few examples would help alot!

    Thanks

the steve davis one is a very good coaching video, covers all the basics, however, from experience, i have found the very best video to be modern snooker, jack karhnem (something like that) this is a very good video, many ppl have credited it as the best coaching video around

I freind of mine who is a midget (well about 5' 2") tried to tell me that you should hold your about a foot from the end. I'm over 6' this was stupid advice. I now hold my 58" cue about an inch from the end this is about normal. Playing alot of pool as well makes you move you grip up and down more though.

Check out Frank Callens guides on his FC Snooker site they are quite good!

Put the cueball behind the baulk line and line up some reds across the middle of the table in line with the blue's spot.

Try potting these one by one with the cueball behind the baulk line. Try mainly dead straight pots or straightish pots.
