He wears a groove just under the ferrule.
Had to put new ferrules on 2 cues in the last 3-4 years lol

Used some triangle pro for the first time tonight, what dirty rotten stuff that is! Fingers like Monty Don by time I came home. Will be trying the Buck series round chalk next in dark green, gotta feeling that's gonna be ****e too.

Hi guys, I have 00 grade steel wool and 1500 grit sandpaper. Are any of these ok to polish or shine the brass ferrule?

Thin strip off the 1500 should work fine. You only need to polish it - not sand it down - so be gentle and the ferrule will last decades. Also, be careful not to focus too much on the top end as otherwise you'll end up narrowing the top of the ferrule over time - many do this by mistake after changing a tip

How do you keep your ferrule clean and tidy? Mines a little dirty but I don't want to rub it with anything to abrasive in case I catch the wood. Any advice?
I cleaned a half a dozen cues with various types of very poor ferules here if you were interested. Can skip through the video to get to bits that are relevant.

A mirror finish is easily attainable with 0000 grade wire wool , and small amount of metal polish being careful to not get it in the shaft , much like the rest of members mention here.

I have a parris ambassador that I was relatively laissez faire with when changing the tip, shaping it, and cleaning the ferrule. It's not ruined by any stretch of the imagination, but now it's more a pool cue (after around ten years of use). I now get a slightly longer cue (58+) and am more careful - masking tape, annual cleaning with 0000 wire wool, not more frequent, and a light re-oil (40% tung and boiled linseed, and 20?% thinners). My thought is that if push comes to shove I can afford 1/4" to put on a new ferrule. No point sticking with one cue, if you change how it plays with the finishing. I now have more than one that play similar and don't take much adjusting to (at my level - not very good).
