  • Spencer on Snooker

    Hi all,
I'm reading "Spencer on Snooker" wrote by John Spencer I.S.B.N. 0 304 93898 published in 1973.
In chapter 1 page 2 is wrote:

"By now I was knocking up 50-60 breaks regularly and it was at
this time that I received my first piece of advice. An elderly
gentleman named Jack Westwell, who had apparently been a very
good billiards player, used to sit and watch me play regularly.
One day he called me over and asked me why was it that I could
consistently make 50-60 breaks without getting any higher. He
persuaded me to leave snooker alone and start playing billiards.
When I did, he used to tell me what shot to play. Playing exactly
as he said always meant I had to use side on the cue-ball instead of
forcing it to get position on wide angle shots.
I played billiards for about six weeks and during the last two
weeks I made thirteen century breaks with the highest of 129.
I was really enjoying the game when he said I'd had enough and…"

Which type of billiard did he mean?

The goal of the game is to reach the point goal before your opponent."

      This type you mean?

The 2016 World Final if anyone is interested. Commentary by Clive Everton.

The 2017 final is on the channel too, but the 2016 matches were a better standard.

Pankaj Advani vs Peter Gilchrist IBSF World Championships 2015. Advani's standard was excellent in this match.

I enjoy watching the game, but matches can have a tendency to get one sided. But if the breaks are flowing it's all good.
