Has anyone tried leather work tools to trim and shape a tip?
I was taking a look on youtube to see how people are burnishing tips and a suggested video
showed a leather worker using a safety beveler/skiver

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTCneSFBWKg

    or an edge beveler

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD-2LHeg7w4

Has anyone had a go with these or know if they would be any good for trimming and/or shaping a tip?

Had a look but don't see any improvements on the usual methods.

I did try some of the leather tools that I use for case making but as Bigandyg says, it didn't really give any advantage over traditional methods.

When you are doing a tip you want to take the little and often method so just a smidge at a time until you are happy.

It's a bit like the pencil sharpener. If you spin it round one revolution of the tip perfectly then you have taken an even amount of the full area; if you just cut pieces off and don't concentrate on 360 degrees with each cut then it will be uneven.

I use a bit of each method but scalpel and sandpaper always gives a decent tip as you need to concentrate and keep looking at the whole tip as you go.

      All personal choice though.
