  • Worrying about a hairline crack?

    Hi, all.

So I hit my cue off the ground a few days ago in frustration at a missed shot (pretty reckless thing to do, I know), and ended up with a small hairline crack in the cue's butt:

I've ordered a nylon butt protector from Woods, and it should be on the way soon:

Should I have anything to worry about with a crack like this, and will the butt protector offer sufficient protection? Or am I just worrying over nothing?

cold super glue on the crack. Scrape off and sand smooth. should have no problems after that

bit more than a hairline crack i would say, runny super glue, not the gel, should fill that and hold it together. is it a 1 piece or 3/4 cue? if its 3/4 it could split a lot deeper than the top splice of a 1 piece.

make sure the glue runs deep into the crack. wipe off any that over spills, let it all dry then remove the excess carefully with fine sand paper.

edit... just seen it has a veneer so the split shouldn't spread any deeper than the top splice.

as above, if you wish to secure the crack; put some super glue in the fridge as it become more fluid, but try to use as little as possible so less to remove afterwards. If you are not good with woodwork then maybe not do it yourself, as you can make a more obvious blemish than just the crack.

IMO, the butt-plug will not protect your cue from further acts of frustration you inflict on your innocent cue!
It will only protect from the scrapping around the tables and the accidently knocks.

And for anyone wanting a bit of advice, don't google "butt plug".
