So how did you come to this particular spec, is it one you're familiar with ?

I know the specs I want from playing with various cues. I don't yet have one that fits all of those things though. I do still need to figure out exactly which weight I need...

Thanks for all your replies. Forgive me for being a little naive but I was just unsure of the process of ordering a new cue with exact specs. I guess you just trust your gut - go with a respected cue maker and hope it plays how you like it?

NINJA - you may be able to answer this - When making a new cue do you have any process for making the cue Whippy or Stiff? Or is this simply down to the grain used and a bit of lady luck?

There are a few things for me and post of it is which wood you use.
Plus ash can be very different, do a matter of picking a stiffer or more wippy shaft, depending on what's asked for.
My cue I'm using at the mo is beech and stiffer that a ash shaft the same size.

Mike Wooldridge offers cues with 3 different grades of 'Whippiness' I have heard a lot of great things about his cues and I have now ordered A MW Legend. I cannot wait to get it.
John Parris -- I have 3 cues from John Parris , but they seem to have quality issues or its just my bad luck,
The Ultimate JP plays the best but they all play very well, the Ultimate has some finish defects.
The other two JP's are better finished, one is now bent and the other has a small crack in it (I got that one used so I'm going to get it refurbished).
The issue with JP cues is the time it takes to get one.
Custom Peradon - I also have a Custom Peradon which play very well and is extremely well finished.
Jason Owens - I have one Jason Owens, its the best finished cue I have, it plays beautifully, fantastic hit, solid feel, very little squirt on side spin, and great to look at. Its a little too light for me at 18.0 Oz but its a great cue.
Hopefully once I get the MW Legend, I'll love it so much I'll sell the rest :-)

I'm loving my MW Legend and Tiger - bought both in the last 3 months. You won't be disappointed...especially if you're upgrading from a Parris ;-)

Mikes cues are made incredibly well and probably have the best finish possible. They may be pricey but you get a far better level of craftsmanship and a product in your hands much sooner than you would going with a JP cue.

Unless you drive to jp you can pick one out the rack. Nothing quite like try before you buy

Agreed...shame that you have to do that with a JP just to make sure it's a decent cue.

I would recommend Robert Osbourne, he specialises in the shorter cue and works straight from his workshop,
you can pick and chose from a massive selection provided he hasn't sent them all to China.

I have been playing with gbl cues for the last 10 years or so I reckon there some of the best cues you can get. Due to work though I haven’t really played much the last 3 years but started again a few months ago just using one of my mates cue. But just bought a maximus cue off Steve spencer (Cheshire snooker cues ). He told me he had a very nice maximus legend 1piece maple that was very nice. Cue came today and wow it’s a good as cue that I have ever owned it’s faultless it as a beautiful feel to it. Have you ever picked up a few cues same model same maker one feels right one feels butt heavy with no weight in the shaft the wood just feels light even though the cues are the same spec. This maximus as a weight to it. It feels solid all the way through the cue and beautifully made I would recommend these cues to anyone absolutely fantastic quality.

The thing with the JP cues I have are quality issues 2 of them have a small crack at the joint both are 3/4 cuts, might be because I play 9 ball and 8 ball but the other cues I have do not have that issue wonder why these JP cues have that issue and one of them is a JP ultimate very expensive $2400 from ebay ...

I play pool more than snooker in the US a lot of 9 ball and 8 ball and I ordered an MW vintage (not a Legend) 19 oz, center cut, 58 inches, medium whip ...I'm hoping against hope it works I have had some bad luck with the JP cues ...Has anyone played American Pool with an MW cue with a 9.5 mm tip ? If you have could you share your experience please ?

I would be careful as brass cue be a little soft for American pool but would think it's ok would a different ferrule.
