    I mean, I'm not saying you should try and scrape your hand along the cloth, but you definitely need to gently slide into the shot.

    The OP was having trouble consistently getting on the correct line, and as I see this problem with a lot of beginner players, I thought I'd mention sliding in as a way of being more consistent.

    I certainly agree that there are some people that seem to make a massive mess of the table. I don't know why that is really.

      I'm not sure but maybe the slide is all about how you get down. I like to put my cue on line first then because my bridge hand is only halfway up the cue ( I'm not sure how far up it is to be honest)as I get down it has to slide into position. If you get down at the same time as your cue maybe your bridge hand has slid up the cue to near enough the right place before your hand hits the table so no real slide, Just a thought.
