            They used to make fly rods out of split cane( bamboo) I had one as a boy, wish I still had it, but iirc it was kind of 50p shaped not round but it is a very strong and springy material.

              Yep as it bent without snapping?

              I can understand why it would work for the last inch or so at the tip end, but a whole shaft, would be a tad wobbly unless radial laminating does something to the rigidity....

                  After watching some of the cricket, is willow any good for cue shafts? They make cricket bats out of it.
