Snooker table lighting - Dextra High-Frequency light

You must have daylight lighting whether you use tubes, bulbs or LED's. Daylight bulbs in the old coffin shades make a world of difference, two 35 watt bulbs per shade in our club, but as Geoff says you get shadows over balls near the cushion as the light is reflected from the middle of the table outwards.
I keep the rooms main lights on as well, it helps a bit.

I have the main room lights on as well as soon as someone else comes in - they want to turn them off - ho hum

The committee are in discussions with Thurstons to see about new lighting

Surprised you prefer the room lights on.

If I were looking for lighting I would be more inclined to contact a local electrician than a specialist snooker company.

I do because the coffin/strips are not the best, not necessarily to increase light on the table (even though they do) but to illuminate the surrounding area, I am not into playing with a brilliantly lit table and black everywhere else

I have mentioned to the social club committee that if they have Thurstons do the supply/fit, they will charge about 3x as much as a standard electrician.

Thurstons have been taken on with a monthly maintenance contract to look after our three tables; they are already in the club as we speak (I may pop down later... :wink
This is all good as the previous chap was - erm... "not very good" and us players cant wait to see the results :biggrin: :snooker:

As they are here, the committee will discuss possible new lighting with them and (I hope) discuss with interested parties before committing to anything
But as one of my friends on the committee said, it is amazing what "the players" have been saying to the committee over the past months/years as to what they would like, let's just say there are only more starts in the sky as to the number of different suggestions received.

All I can say is, the move to another company is a massive step for the club, and a good one at that, cross-fingers

Philip, I've have a suspended ceiling installed, with 2 rows of 600mm square translucent tiles backlit by LED lighting above the table. So considering the lighting is diffused somewhat, the result is still outstanding in comparison to tungsten. For me it was like having an upgrade in glasses after a visit to the opticians.

Saw some of these LED backlit panels at a club I visited in their concert room. I must say that they would look great above a table. Definitely a stern alternative to luminaries.

I have been doing some research about putting LED panel light above a snooker table. It seems like this LED panel light is used to replace the fluro light and can save some more electricity fee. Anyone can share some experiences??

Not sure should I buy 3-4 60cm x 60cm or 2-3 30cm x 120cm

Thanks Geoff. I live in Brisbane, Australia, these lights seem not sending to Australia. I ended up bought 60cm x 60cm x 3 (ask a friend for advice and saw some clubs in UK put 3 60cm x 60cm on the table, and look quite good) with similar price. Now, just need to think of the hanging wire.
