  • *NEW* Mike Wooldridge 'secret' AirTwist Join

after nearly two years in development, my new join is finally ready.

    http://www.handmadecues.com/cues/21-airtwist.htm

currently only available fitted to my own cues but trade enquiries are welcome.

apart from looking good, the biggest advantage it has over all other joins is that it has been designed with a view to actually improving 'feel' and responsiveness.

    which it does....

p.s. turn the sound up when you watch the animation.

Certainly sounds impressive Mike, will this mean a return to the centre joint?

lol. not for me. i like 1pc cues....

as a matter of fact, the join is specifically designed for 3/4 cues in as much as an essential part of the design is the fact it is set into, and level with, the wood.

for a centre join cue. it would need to be fitted like a standard join, i.e with the brass face sitting on top of the wood, which is absolutely fine. alternatively, the face could be turned down to fit in a recess thus retaining the wood to wood feature and general 'principle' of the join.

but that would spoil my lovely engraving...

mike does the wood where the 2 faces meet stay nice and flush or will they get a bit worn and tatty in time.

I've seen cues with hidden joins (though none looked as solid as this) before and they didn't seem to have any probs with the surrounding wood.

I think it's a good look, and I like the idea of keeping the joint's weight down.

if you look after your cue, they'll stay perfect.

if you don't they won't. but that applies to standard joins also. i've seen plenty of them where the faces have dents etc...

but one other useful bonus. if you do ever damage the wood by accident, it can be easily repaired. unlike a full brass face, which once damaged, stays damaged.
