I don't enjoy watching Higgins. Always makes me feel uncomfortable. He was an insane, wretched man who could not control himself. He was a menace for anyone who had to do with him. Not suitable as an ideal for young players.

He wasn't that bad.....when he was sober, and away from the horses. He's an excellent lesson to (not too young) children, to avoid living to excess. I don't think he was insane or wretched, just a product of his upbringing and circumstance.

I don't think it's a competition. People aren't all the same. I'm guessing you cope with life better than Alex did.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Personally speaking I would prefer not to give my own without feeling that I fully understood all the elements of a situation or people involved. That would be likened to posting on a Musicians forum that you didn't like Pink Floyd because they were unruly.....

If you are not old enough to have watched Alex in real time when he was playing live, it would be harder to feel the energy and excitement that he created in the game at that time from watching YouTube. For many many people he was someone who when you watched him play, you would sit on the edge of your chair and hope the balls would go in, feeling joy and pain over the different outcomes. Not many players can make you feel that way especially when you do not even know them personally, that was a quality Alex possessed....

He was far from perfect, he was human...

    Very true @Cue crafty.

My humble thoughts, I was too young to appreciate Alex Higgins' fully. Personally, Jimmy White inspired me. Many don't seem to agree but for me there is some kind of magic in his snooker.
