Default Refinishing shaft - get it smooth

I'm planning on refinishing an ash snooker cue.
Reason is because you can really feel the grain and I want it silky smooth, more like a maple shaft.

I looked around on the internet, but couldn't really find a good answer how to do it and with what product

What brand /type of sanding sealer would be best? And how to use it on a cue?

That will do it nicely, also some 320 sand paper 400 and 600.
