  • Interesting videoa/documentaries.

It'll be interesting to know what you've come across with your own interests, but I'm sure you can guess some of the interesting ones I've seen. There's one on the Bulgarian gypsies, before you cry the Bulgarian government hasn't helped or neglected these minorities you should know that Bulgaria has a universal education system as well as healthcare. The block of flats in this documentary were paid for by the Bulgarian government as brand new and fully furnished. This is the thanks they got for trying to integrate them, they burnt the doors and looted everything else, it's mental and comical as they chose this self destruction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2LvcKeot-k This block of flats has since been closed down, I think it was either in Sliven or Yambol.

During much of it's past Bulgaria has been a rich economy, in the 1920's it was so rich that Dutch workers went there as economic migrants. Seeing the UK being the sick man off Europe, benefitting from bilateral trade to then decide it doesn't want to help our neighbours is sickening. Doesn't it make you feel ashamed?

Well, I have No documentaries my friend , sorry about that.
. But for me , Glencoe in Scotland. One of the Scotland's most historic glen if I'm Not mistaken . Unreal . Absolutly beautiful. If I ever win the lottery, gonna buy a house there with two snooker tables and lots of cues.
unfortunately never been in Bulgaria. a friend of mine was there for holidays with his family. it's a very beautiful country. as he told me.

Just at present it is a very cold country. Just got the central heating going in the main house, lit the kitchen fire, put some more wood on one of the stoves upstairs and shall soon be going to put the AC on in the snooker room so I can play a bit later on.

Hate thy neighbour approach, it's an interesting twist on the way we are brought up in a christian country, but understandable with the rhetoric that comes from the trashy tabloids. I see where you are coming from even if I think you need to give your head a wobble. Here's a little video of the Bulgarian economic developments to show you that you may well be eating your words when the potential time comes that they are richer than us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSk43wJnHmU&t=244s further to that there is this, the world is getting more connected https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZA9is6ERpM

Just for future reference, the odds on me ever opening one of your links are pretty slim, so could you tell me when Bulgaria (gdp 54 billion USD) will become richer than the UK (gdp 2.7 trillion USD)?

                  I'm on tenterhooks!

It's not on the near horizon, the economy was comparatively better off during communism in the first half of the 1980's compared to now. The UK economy is much larger but that conceals the truth somewhat. The PPP is the best way of comparing comparative per capita earnings. In Bulgaria this is around $20,000, the UK is $43,000, but what makes this gap narrow significantly is the grey economy of Bulgaria is estimated at up to 50% of household earnings and 32% of the economy. If that unaccounted for area was shown then the country isn't significantly poorer per person. If the economy can expand more quickly than the UK, which it should as it has more scope for improvement, then it wouldn't take many decades for earning parity to be reached.

The home ownership in Bulgaria is amongst highest in the world, 82% without a mortgage due to the families being gifted their residences when communism ended, so in some respects the country is better socially already, the UK is 20% down on that and many of these home owners are tied to a long term mortgage so they are in pressure to hold down their job through uncertain times.

Incomes here are nowhere near that figure.

Pleven isn't the richest area, the NW of the country is in need of a boost economically, I hope the new trans European transport corridors help a bit.

I don't know from where you get your figures but incomes here are not at that level

The earning is a comparative one that uses the US economy as the standard price for consumerables. The Bulgarian per capita income averages at around $7,000, but due to the price of commodities and consumerables being cheaper the direct comparison to the real value is $20,000. Money goes further, if you buy your products from gypsy farm stalls you can buy a weeks shopping for maybe $10, it'd cost you much more in the US and other similiar economies.
