Weirdest listings ever, i've seen him post before with similar images, the auction runs the course and nothing is ever updated.
Well I would not be bidding!

Apparently this is what passes for an ultimate these days.

Compare that to the shaft on a 250 quid maximus legend i had a few years back:

The pressure on the ridiculous backlog of these cues has them badging up anything half decent as an ultimate. I can honestly say i';ve seen better looking shafts on club rack cues.

Not intended to be a dig at parris but the proof is in the pics, maybe if they done away with the handplanes and went to electric they would be able to get these cues cranked out a lot faster. Makes zero difference to the final product in terms of looks or playability so why stick with a now archaic method?

Most of the headers ordering these just seem to want to order them just to flog on ebay, though it seems now a lot of the buyers are going for the low numbered ultimates.

            • I honestly don't see whats wrong with this one but i am of course in no way an expert in cues, i'm sure you guys can tell me
(Apart from it being priced ridiculously high, was indeed 500 less this morning, which was already too high)
Also no sd lock i think, no info about length, weight.

The spiel on an ultimate cue used to be " a magnificent shaft, very straight grain, very even points". The grain on that cue in the listing is mostly clustered around the middle of the shaft. Compare it side by side to the pic above of the maximus cue that has grain points that have a pretty even spacing between them. Does amaze me though that for a 5 year wait and over a grand thats the quality of cue you get, whereas a pro has to wait a few months tops and get an infinitely better looking shaft (plus they don't pay for it). Look at Kyren WIlson or Mark Williams cues for examples.

Here's an image of my old Glover shafted H&o cue, never seen a shaft since with 6 arrows spaced like that. Was sold as a replica, probably made its way to China as a legit cue by this point.

On the cue design..is it just me that thinks secondary splices shouldn't be covering that much of the ebony? A 50\50 split to me looks better.

                            • Wow, talk about insane pricing.
Surely nobody will pay that much?

I had the luck to find a jpu this week locally and was able to try it out first, loved it, but no way i'd pay that much.

                              • A snooker Cue is just a tapered piece of wood, with some reasonably intricate work done on splicing and veneers etc. Mr Chippendale would have had a chuckle or two to himself if he saw how much money was spent on snooker cues these days when a large number of people buy their sofa from DFS for less.......:glee:

what I'm trying to say is, in terms of carpentry crafts skill, making a cue isn't really the height of craftsmanship in woodworking.
