  • Any one ever seen one of these?

Hi, just another ebay find and wondered if anyone had ever seen one before. It's called the Burroughes and Watts Billiards sighting angle: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BURROUGHES...#ht_657wt_1270

I was wondering firstly if it's original, secondly if anyone has one or has seen one before (as I haven't) and how much you'd think it's worth? :snooker:

Last one of these that I saw was a different design. I suspect the one on eBay is the later, improved model. Certainly more convenient to carry around! Can't think they were ever of much use to anyone.

ah but this one is prettier and would look better in my office!

Thanks for all the replies! 100-uppers one looks nicer IMO- what date would you say this is roughly from? :snooker:

I would say 1880's- possibly a little later, but not much.

Wow, that old! How old do you think the one on ebay would be then? Just a little later than that one? :snooker:

A little digging through my documents reveals that the two models were actually contemporaneous. There is a diagram of them both in a 1889 Burroughes & Watts catalogue. The smaller version in the leather case was apparently designed for the waistcoat pocket. Looking at the smaller one I would have said it was of a later date, but apparently not. You learn something every day.

Very interesting! It doesn't look as small as that in the photo on ebay. I think it will fetch a high price :snooker:

                          CRIKEY £490 !!!!
I thought my bid of £46 was pushing it a bit for a bit of hinged wood

Unbelievable! It must have been super rare! I thought it was going to go up high after what 100-upper said, I wonder if a forum member bought it? :snooker:
