  • Star Table Heaters

    Hi Guy's,

Just about to order a Strar Tournament Table and was wondering if the heaters should be on continously while playing or if it is pretty much optional (which I think it is). I understand the heating is for table speed but I dont mind being corrected. My table will be sitting on hard flooring but I will have protective flooring around the table, coming off 4 foot around the entire table to protect the floor tiles from flying balls. If it the heating lights are on continously then a damn power lead will be in the way on whichever side it runs, unless I can buy a isolated power source which sits underneath the table.

    Many thanks.

      Thank you, blackballgame.

Did some research and found this nice inverter which can work 240 volt equipment, its a Ring RINV1100 - PowerSourcePro 1100W 12V DC - 240V Mains Inverter and has 12 hour continuous working span.

Also, I have under floor hear which will rise and create a balloon of heat under the table anyway, just not sure if this heat would be ample.

We had a similar thread on here a while back which I started here about the heaters, totally forgot, sorry mods.

      Thanks again..

I always recomend rising heat rather than fixed just under the slate heat , heat too near the wood can shrink it , i have seen twisted muntings from too much heat that have lifted the slates proud of the side frame or even sagged them in paces if shrunk too much , also too much heat can distort the slates , slate is like wood it has a grain and can sepperate and shale if heated too much , if you get slates wet and it freezes the slate will shale the opposit example is if you over heat the slate those thin grains may have slight air pocket or gas pockets trapped in them and expand , SHORT term in those TV tournaments the slate is going to be ok , I am thinking long term use of the heaters too close to the slate and frame .
They always charge a premium for those specialist table heaters when in real terms 3 oil filled radiators would do just as good as HEAT RISES , if you had the heating put under the floor you should realy have zoned it into inner zone under the table and outer zone around the table
Also anyone building a room from scratch should have electric sockets put in the floor if going down the route of table heaters or oil filled rads . like this one in the attached thread in wales , the customer did have the forsight to put an electric socket in the floor under the table .

the star tables do not look great to me and are vastly over priced - you should ask geoff about setting you up with a decent table!

Yes, I have considered all optoins like a old table and abviously the ones on the pro tour. There also the back up to take in to consideration, such as the guarantee etc etc.. Its down to too what you want to look at, from furniture / aesthetic point of view. If money important, then yes you can get a cracking table for 5k..

Looking forward to my table though, its been a long ambition to own my own space. You can really focus on the parts of your game that need improvment in a nice silent room ( other than the Mrs stating that "you said your only doing 2 hr practise today" )..

            Now just the wait...

I agree. But its down to what the buyer wants and the type of deco one has where the table sits. If you have the space and pay around 4.5k, then you have a terrific asset to your house and for a bargain price.

Agree with you ADR147. If I was spending 12k on a table the last one I would consider buying is Chinese STAR table. Far better with a Burroughes and Watt fully restored. 2 Inch Welsh slates. 1/2 inch steel plates as opposed to 10mm found on modern tables. Frames double bolted with multiple slate muntings. Can also be set up to tournament specification with a few tweaks. You can even put modern cushion friezes and match pocket plates is you so wished. A wholly better investment in my opinion.
