  • Log Cabin - Anyone?

    Hello all

I was wondering how many people out there have managed to install a full size snooker table in a log cabin?
If so, was the cabin custom made? What size do you have? Would be nice to get see some pictures.
    Thanks

here you go the one above looks good click on this to see who the manufacturer is and they are based in Evesham so not too far away from you http://www.logcabins.co.uk/casestudy.asp?ID=4

and as you can see some cabins have to have internal strengthener walls as was the case here http://gclbilliards.com/another-move...-in-log-cabin/

but I am sure with 4 inch steel box section support in place of these sides jutting out then boxed in to match the centre roof support will still function the same . Maybe the metal box section could be on the outside of the building ? then clad with wood to match in .

contact Keop's for an accurate quote speak to Richard .

all contact detail are in the link .

        email best@logcabins.co.uk Tel 01386361961

I am sure you have some choices like , flat pack delivery or fully deliver assembled price , the base would have to be down before hand too and any mains cable in situ .

Remember for a full size table you are looking for a minimum of 22 ft by 16 ft INTERNAL with no obstructions like those middle side supports jutting out .

I would allow for extra 6ft length for say a sofa and coffee table . so a 28ft by 16ft Internal would be the best size .

They will probably put decking around it . some of these log cabin's can have a extended overhang of roof to cover a deck .
I am trying to find a photo I have somewhere of a log cabin in Dorset that I fitted a table in 2 to 3 years ago, it was huge having a riley FS aristocrat a table tennis table and a 60 inch plasma with seating too .
This firm may not be the cheapest quote , but looking at their product it may be one of the best out there , and proven for snooker table installation use.
I am sure they can slightly alter any standard design to not have those inner wall supports , to suit a snooker table use.

I found the photo posting of the Dorset job in 2011 , and note how their roof supports have no internal side support walls sticking out

Geoff - Fantastic, however, not all of us are lucky to have anywhere near 30 by 30 feet of space - but as always, thanks for sharing. What is the name of the firm?

not sure what the name of the Dorset cabin manufacturer was , I just put it on there as an example of the roof support system to show there are ways around the inner wall supports getting in the way of cue room .

The lincoln manufacturer I still have to find out who that is , but I am sure it is around £6000 for that one , I will find out in the next week and post info about them too.
I think self build in kit form is the way to go to save money as it is just like putting a shed up only a much larger shed , but the roof felting is a thing that you need experience on , making sure it is all water tight .

147-shark has come across a problem building it out of brick to accommodate a full sized table which is why he is enquiring about a log cabin , of course there are price differences from £6000 self build to £20.000 depending on materials used craftsmanship to erect Size and transport delivery and fittings used . plus any extra's such as heating and Electrics etc.
I have worked in many log cabin installations from both ends of the price range , benefits are only hight restriction is the only building regs to adhere to , you do not need building inspection or footings , although these have already been dug , a concrete raft is all that is required . but make sure it is not covering any services such as sewer pipe/drains or man hole as that can cause problems down the road .
I think there is a size restriction based on garden size too so you may have to look into that .

there is no price given on the link to the one in Evesham yet to be compared to the £12000 to £15000 build cost of a Brick built one .
The one in lincoln I am pretty sure was £6000 , but I have to phone him up to see what the base cost and the electrics plus extra's such as Guttering and down pipes.
He employed a joiner to erect it with himself as the help . and it is nearly twice the size of the one required for this job as can be seen from this link , the table is down the other end of the Cabin , allowing for a large Lounge or even a pool table or tennis table to be at this end
                        http://gclbilliards.com/another-move...n-log-cabin-2/

looking at some of the building regs the room will fall inside of building regs as you will require a Cabin of 5.1 metre's by 7 metre's
giving you an outside measurement of 16ft 4 inch by 22ft 11 inch . if the timbers are 2inch thick by the look of them you should then have an interior room of 16 ft wide by 22 ft 7 inch .
so you will still have to have the building inspector in . I would take it up with him first to see if you are within code of the building regs before you order any log cabin .
Some councils when looking at Garden wood buildings just tell you to get on with it , others are a bit belt and braces, whatever permission they give get them to put it in writing as they can change their mind if a neighbour complains . as has been done on the TV series about planning officers.

I was told ideally for a full size snooker table which are 12 x 6 you need a minimum of 6 foot all around so 24 x 18 to be comfy more if you want a sofa etc - is this not correct?.

I think just getting the power to it, is a major headache subject to building regulations
burying the cable 1 metre under ground with warning tape above it FFS.

Imagine trying to do this from the house under a patio to the other end of the garden

It would probably look like a scene from WW1

Did not realise I had to protect the cable from German attack !!

No the minimum is 22ft by 16ft

if you wanted more clearance for seating then yes , but 22 by 16 is the MINIMUM this will give around 4 inch clearance of cue room at each side from nose of cushion and thats on a straight shot across the table with the ball on the nose of the cushion .
99.9% of shots are at an angle .

if you had a cabin with 2 inch walls at 5.2 metres outer wall wide you will have 6 inch draw back down each side easy.

one thing I will point out is do not have glass doors going all the way to the floor as a ball coming off the table will break the glass , ask for half glazed doors .

and if you have the table . measure the leg span and ask any manufacturer to strengthen the floor where the legs will sit so that it will not move when walking around it , or use concrete floor with damp membrane in place of wood floor and bolt sides into concrete ?
