  • Correct voltage table cloth?

Does it say that the cloth makes a difference in the quality of the game, this is a fact, but I would like to know what is the correct tension that the fabric should remain at the time of installation, so that it is perfect?

    thank you!!!

The cloth on a table may become less-tight a bit after time after installation and will require a "re-stretch" to tighten it again.
Different makes and models have differing times this may happen as well as how often it is used, brushed, napped, ironed, etc.
As an example the Strachan cloth on the tables at my club were re-stretched after approx. 6months and about 1/4 inch taken out.

This re-tightening information is very important ... and can they keep the mark of the balls or new marks made on the cloth?

      thank you!

they tend to remove the old marks and mark as necessary.
Unfortunately, on one of our cloths the old marks did not remove fully so we do see the old lines and crosses, interesting at times

discussing this matter in the room where I play we came to the conclusion that the snooker table is an instrument and the cloth to be harmonious needs to be constantly tuned, if that is no longer possible then it is time to change the cloth, because playing on an imperfect table considerably undermines the momentary confidence of the player!

You would not replace a set of tyres on your car with half the tread left on them .
it is the same with billiard cloth , so re-stretching does quicken the cloth speed up , it also moves the area's of wear from the pockets falls , the tram lines or ball tracks as some describe .
as for the baulk line and D , these move back slightly maybe around 3/8 ths to half an inch , I use acetone to erase the pencil lines , this knocks them back a bit , the trick is to mark out on top of old line to minimise the double vision effect of two lines .
this may be that you are 3/8 ths to half inch further back than the 31 inch from edge of slate marking but much better to do this in my opinion than have two lines half inch apart .

as for original question the correct tension , there is no meter reading for tension that a billiard fitter carries with him , the art of stretching cloth is passed down from fitter to fitter , once you have been doing the job for around 10 years you should have a feeling for the different grades and weight of cloth used , and your arm and muscles get used to stretching to a certain tension , a built in torque wrench so to speak controlled by experience .
the more experience the consistence of tension from table to table is met .

also tacks every 4 or 5 inch and not spread apart
look at this bad work by a Leeds firm http://gclbilliards.com/very-slack-c...by-before-use/

if a cloth has just been taken off and refitted , then you can use string lines to try and keep the line straight when re stretching back on like this table http://gclbilliards.com/full-size-sn...ales-for-emyr/

It won't make much practical difference for snooker, but I doubt you'll find a billiard player who'll thank you for moving the baulk line back half an inch.

these days they play with £1000 hand made cues , 1 g balls , £30 tips , and £700 re-covers , these table owner players just have then re-covered every 6 months .

Those pictures of the slack cloths are alarming.

Geoff, Thanks, I had to fit my cloth back on after a move for work. It was really hard and time consuming to get it right, wish I had known your string over the cloth trick to guide the installation, it would have saved me allot of time, its almost time to replace my cloth once again, I was thinking of making some marks with a lead pencil, do you think I will be able to get these marks off when I have to do a cloth tightening after a few months. Cheers
I try hard, play hard and dont always succeed, at first.!!!!:snooker:

Just mark it out gently and let it fade do not be tempted to press deep or mark out in black felt tip , and not be tempted to remark if you are planning a re-stretch soon , soft black HB pencil is the best as you can use acetone to help knock it off the cloth , use a piece of old cloth to wet the acetone onto and use this to rub baulk line and D out , about 6 inch at a time of back and forth rubbing of whetted acetone cloth .
use pure acetone not oil mixed nail varnish remover and make sure it is genuine acetone you can get it lower strength which is not good .

Acetone to buy is this type 100% http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-LITRE-AC...QAAOSwd0BVq9n~

these are the pencils I use http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STABILO-Ex...IAAOSwU8hY46Ir

I do recommend using these spots and iron them on https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ivy-Adhesiv...ds=green+spots

they are easy to take off , but will protect the cloth , do not forget professionals only play on a cloth for three days hence no spots .
will make your black and pink spots wear less when replacing balls on X without a spot .
