Hi. I'm just starting to play after starting a new job last year and discovering that the dark little room with a leaky roof that no one ever seems to enter, actually houses a full size snooker table. I started to have a knock around during breaks and got the bug. I'm almost 50 and used to play a bit in my teens and early 20's. Never got very good, the occasional 30 break, that sort of level. I've since discovered that now a days, if I pot 4 balls in a row then I'm in great form 😂. But I've fallen in love with the game again and want to improve.

First thing, find somewhere to play and maybe update my cue. I still had my old cue from 30+yrs ago. An 80's High St, Sports Shop classic. £25 Riley cue with Stephen Hendry's signature on the shaft that I thought was the bee's knees. So a bit of Googling led me to Green Baize in Thornaby and the snooker club next door. What a great place. I left the house thinking "Do I really need to spend money on a cue when got a perfectly fine one already. I mean a cues a cue isn't it?" I left Green Baize with a nice, but not too expensive, Master Cue Pro Butt, case and extensions.

This was less than a week ago. so hoping my investment will pay off.. I'm hoping to play 3 or 4 times a week and watching the YouTube tutors. So we'll see how it goes.

Thanks Neil. Yeah I feel lucky to have discovered that Green Baize is my local shop. I had no idea it exsisted a week ago. Great place with great staff. It can intimidating for a newbie entering a specialist sports shop. Staff and customers can be very sniffy. Them and the snooker club next door have been brilliant and very welcoming.

Yes Dean, I’ll be playing there as well so really happy to have discovered the place. I’ll take some pics of the snooker room at work too. I’m off today but take a few snaps tomorrow.

welcome along! I'm a master cue fan having used one for a number of years, good choice! Greenbaize/Stu is great. With a cue doctor on site too they can pretty much serve every need you might have

Thanks qc. Yeah, well the Master Cue just fit the bill. I had in mind a fairly heavy, handmade (if affordable) ash cue. I wanted a plain black ebony butt (if available). I tried a few in my price range and the Pro Butt 1 felt great and aesthetically was exactly what I was looking for. 58” 19oz, all black ebony butt with nice prominent grain. I love it.

The links are supposed to be pics of my new cue. I’ve no idea what I’m doing so they may not work.
