noppon saengkham's been disappointing since nearly beating selby at the crucible , blown away just now by someone ranked 82nd on the one year list , although his victor beat bingham earlier in the season the thai still hasn't seemed to have kicked on though , bit surprising .

Just noticed on the draw that Ronnie, Higgins and Dott have all withdrawn.

So Carter withdraws from the Players Championship and Ronnie gets a W/O into the next round, then Ronnie withdraws from the Gibraltar Open and Carter gets another opponent, seems perfectly fair to me. He's probably frightened Alli will rough him up again.

I thought Matthew Selt played exceptionally well... looked really focused, didn't make any easy mistakes (apart from the one Hendry scored a century from), really nice long game.
          "That pocket moved!"

Neil Robertson out, 4 - 2 to 101 ranked Lei Peifan, bit of a surprise that one. 4 tons one week, not even a 50 the next.
Jordan Brown also looked distinctly ordinary in his 4 - 3 defeat to Rod Lawler. Funny old game isn't it.

Interesting to see the contrast between the state of new european players to chinese players when alan mcmanus plays zhao jianbo on friday , mcmanus just thrashed kacper filipiak , filipiak who’s been in and around the tour for a decade and can still barely get a win , whereas jianbo’s only in his first year and has already beat stuart bingham and the good thai player noppon saengkham yesterday , similar vein tomorrow morning with the ukranian iulian boiko , boiko’s only 15 but like filipiak is overhyped and probably never would have got a look in if he was chinese .

There's obviously a dramatic difference of culture between the two, maybe more pressure on the Chinese? They have high levels of expectation which my explain both their initial success and apparent inability to push on to the very top, with any consistency. It is interesting though.

Robertson missed some shocking balls to the bottom corner pockets. Close in shots that he could get in his sleep. He looked like a disgruntled labradoodle when Lei began to move ahead of him. You could see the look on his face " I could lose this match " that he usually hands out to his opponents. To give Lei his due he played pretty well , as Selt did yesterday also. Wonder will Mark Allen win tomorrow ? He could do with a few wins coming up to worlds. All these guys will be scrabbling for a bit of confidence.

15-year old Iulian Boiko got his first professional win today - 4.3 over Fergal O'Brien.

Bit of a close call for Mark Allen this morning, fluking the deciding black against the 15 year old Ukrainian Iulian Boiko. Neither played particularly well, but Allen's experience just about got him through. Allen got the three snookers he needed in frame 2, only to go in-off, effectively handing the frame to Boiko who potted some nice balls, but also missed quite a lot. It'll be interesting to see if and how this youngster progresses.

Another one who could be interesting to follow is Pang Junxu, who turned 21 years recently and has some quite good results this season. He made the fourth round at the UK Championship, the European Masters and the Welsh Open.
