  • Yeah he said he had a couple during the interval with the Wells match.

Did I hear him correct when he said his stepson, aged 13, had just had a 147 in 5m 04s?

I missed that, did either of them achieve it ?

Jammy git Allen, Murphy took that well but inside he must have been seething.

White did on joint 6th plus attempt.

It is an interesting shot to see Pro's attempt due to the balls weight and thicker cloth ie ROS got the CB the other side of the black off the side cushion, and Robertson did it in a match (when well beaten ie no pressure) but the CB didn't arc.

            I'll dig out links....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Bm5UrrUI9w Nic B impressing me tbh, although CB is far from the same, unlike Jimmy who nailed it. "Demonstration of what you need to play one of the most historic snooker shots. Warning - it is not possible to do on a slow club table with an old cloth - or with worn and dirty snooker balls!" is my point re balls and cloth....

Thanks for that. I've seen Robbos one before, modern conditions regarding fast cloth and NB had the cue ball a lot closer and neither of them were bridging over a red like Alex was.

                • Indeed, and NB's "warning" is what Alex managed?

Nowadays I have thought it more side than screw, which is how ROS got more action on CB.

It may be on the Eurosport Youtube Channel? It certainly should be as it is almost the definitive "shot" ie it doesn't need any more than "Alex Higinns' Blue". Undoubtedly the best 19(ish), let alone 69 ever seen, imho. Nothing has got close top the buzz watching it live....

Btw White said a mate had been getting Alex large Vodka's all day, so no need to worry - Jimmy said that worried him more

I've seen some better ones, but that's with two girls

                    • 19(ish)? Oh ages

T'was an exceptional watch as when he got position there was always that "he will miss" thing

Was funny when he said that he knew Alex could play great regardless of drink, i remember when Alex lost to Davis in the Uk Championship i think it was he said he'd done everything right and still got stuffed he'd had all the honey and vitamin pills and not had a vodka for 8 weeks ..the games not straight whats gone wrong...........lol

The Higgins blue and the 69 is more special by what was at stake one miss and he's out in a World semi, almost like being on the brink made him play better, and never thought about safety even after running out of position so many times, he was clearing up and that was that.

The fact its still remembered and talked about today say's it all really..........

                        • Not sure it was very responsible for Ronnie to suggest having a drink is an option to get back in to a match but he and Jimmy both sounded like they were hitting the bar last night. By the end of it Jimmy looked sozzled with his red, glazed eyes. Either that or he was knackered.

What are the rules on players drinking alcohol during a match? Are they banned from drinking alcohol during play but can have a drink during intervals?

                          • Dunno ask Bazza, but it was odd that it was mentioned and my guess is that Allen's hangover kicked in vs Wells, so "needed" alcohol.

The sad part was that pretty much mocked Alex for it, when I am quite certain that nerves etc were part of it (and the horrible smoking thing with 4 in one hand...)

He was a genius along with Best and ROS, which is why I will defend ROS as he has survived for pretty much more than them combined. Some of what he says is garbage, obviously, althought there is sense in there somewhere ie his "Tour" thing, but he is not the brightest button.....

                            • Jimmy was talking about his 4 half of lagers in different places and bars during intervals especially at the Crucible, said he would have one half with the reptiles......meaning the press...........lol

That shot will never be boring to view. I doubt anything quite like it will ever be attempted again in any important match situation.
