Interesting sub-plot for those of us who are Brecel fans.

      13. Steven Maguire 327 500
      14. Luca Brecel 326 600
      15. Jack Lisowski 321 600
      16. David Gilbert 300 000

      17. Ryan Day 285 000
      18. Joe Perry 265 000
      19. Allister Carter 252 000
      20. Yan Bingtao 237 000

Given his recent form, current table, and schedule of play in China I think it's only 50/40 he gets to the Crucible. Maybe even only 50/50. One good thing for his chances is that Day/Carter and Perry/Gilbert are seeded to play each other in the 3rd round. So at worst two of those four can't catch him.

There are many possible permutations and combinations and given the relatively short format really anything can happen. He needs to win a couple of rounds to feel any degree of safety. If he loses to Sam Baird in the first round he's going to need a lot to go right to make it.

Looking at it again, maybe things aren't quite as dire as I stated but it's by no means guaranteed.

If Brecel loses in the first round, this is what round the players below him need to get to in order to pass him...

          Lisowski - 2nd round
          Gilbert - semi-final (quarter-final leaves him 5000 short)
Day - final (semi-final leaves him 2000 short)
          Perry - final
          Carter - final
          Yan - win

So it's probably more like a 90% chance that he makes it. He needs to avoid two of those players making a deep run.

Or he could just play well and win it!

Steadman is giving Selby a tough fight. 3-3 presently.

Selby loses his chance to regain the no. 1 spot in this tourney and also the hattrick! Well played Steadman.

What a brilliant result for Craig Steadman , has a decent chance against Dominic Dale in the next round . Would think that it will be a close match though .

Lots of fans at the venue dressed up as empty seats. I'm watching a raw feed on Eurosport Player and they're making a bunch of announcements in English and Chinese to a basically empty hall. I understand that they make their money from TV revenue, but it's embarrassing for the sport.

If I am not mistaken, this was the case in some other recent tourney in China as well.
