Ronnie touched a Red, that was the Foul, he had not played a stroke.

A Miss is only when a stroke has been made and the Ball On is not hit.
No Stroke, no Miss; just a Foul; no replacement of balls.
as Jan says the situation has changed because no stroke was made.

What do you think has changed in the rule or that Jan has got wrong?
The Foul and a Miss Rules been changed (Sep19) but nothing to reflect this scenario.
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

Aa Dennis Taylor said, a player can foul deliberately and skip the miss rule.

yep, that is the worst of this scenario; as usual up to the referee to judge if the player did anything deliberately.

Yes, I did not know about this scenario earlier.

The miss rule was created to stop players not actually try to escape from a snooker and instead just play to leave the white in a safe spot. So this scenario shows the same issue still exists. It was Alex (who hated rules) who flouted this loop hole in the rules originally that forced the board to create the miss rule.

Any unscrupulous player could could easily take advantage of this loophole.....

The Miss rule has been around since billiards rules days (1900s if not before) to stop players not attempting a legal shot. What has changed is the penalty applied and that has been tinkered with over the modern era mostly.
It is difficult to cover a genuine and non genuine attempts at the shot.

You can play a deliberate Miss in billiards , it's just a two point foul, iirc. Unless the rules have changed recently, I've not played league billiards for three years.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

I am amazed we have not seem this happen more. Its again a great indictment to the sportsmanship we play the game too though. How long will it be before a player abuses this in a critical moment though?!?!

Only when you're double baulked I believe.

Alex was called for a deliberate miss in the world final against Reardon in '82, it's on youtube, left a snooker escape about three feet short and the ref immediately put him back. The rule has always been there but hardly used and that's down to weak referees, the rule now is a joke and is used by many purely to drag out frames and gain points.
If the hit and hope snooker escape becomes very popular then the ref's will spend an awful lot of time replacing balls after fouls.

but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair
