  • Hawkeye and cue ball striking.

    Hi Folks

I know Hawkeye is used in some of the bigger tournaments and I have always been fascinated by this technology. However I wondered (as a variation on a theme) what people thought about broadcasters using an on screen cue ball type icon during tournaments so that the commentators could indicate where the player is likely to strike a cue ball for any given shot or to show you after the shot has been taken. I think a lot of snooker fans would like this although I expect it would annoy the life out of others! I think it would help deepen people's understanding of positional play and perhaps just how difficult it is to play the game to the standard the pros do. Maybe a "red button type option" so you could choose. Any thoughts.

    Cheers

      Hi Tedisbill

I didn't realise that bud! In tournaments? I take it it didn't catch on then?

      Cheers

Yes mate in main tournaments on the BBC. They were using Hawkeye and zooming in on the White which had a blue dot on it to show where the player would be striking.

It's not as simple as where you strike the white to get an understanding of how to achieve a certain shot...

How you time it is what matters and there's no way to translate that from the screen.

Aye, I watched a couple of other things while I was there, I know the cloths and tables are better but some of the shots the pros pull of ,under pressure is amazing, it's alright trying them against your pal in a bounce game in the club, but when your pay check is on the line its a different story.
