  • wii recommended?

ok, the deal is this: the kid wants a wii,
    does anybody have one,
    would recommend one,
    which games, etc.
Is it much better then say, Playstation2, apart from the obvious sportive addition.
On other hand do not want to find controls flying towards TV.

If you have kids/family round over Crimbo, they're great fun but the novelty can wear off pretty quick.

Although they're cheap enough to buy and bring out when you have friends/family round.

theyre great fun. dont know about the "longevity" of their appeal, as i dont own one, though friends do. if your kids are of drinking age, then the tv may need protection, as when drunk the house windows and tv's are "in the way".

great fun, and worth the money IMHO, especially over where you are, as over here theyre scarce and quite a few are ordering from Germany and France from here to get them for Chrimbo. i think

It depends on the size of your living room. Small living room, Wii == bad, big living room, Wii == good.

thanks for the replies. Sounds like good fun.
No, not drinking age, just slightly hyper...
...and really, you have to special order them in UK? Who would have thought that?
But good point elvaago, living room big, but TV not in living room

I have both an Xbox 360 and PS3, and can tell you that the PS3 is the better machine by far. As far as either stack up against a Wii, I can't help.

But I did hear about a guy in America, a surgeon who got a little hooked on the tennis game and played for something like 18 hours straight. He ended up with a severely injured shoulder, needed surgery and couldn't work for several months. My wife works at an Eye specialist hospital and they're always getting people come in with Wii controller related injuries to the eye when straps break or a during a 2 player game. I've avoided getting one myself (mostly because my better half told me not to).

                thanks again.
well, meanwhile we binned 'project wii' and got away with the much cheaper eye-toy option (kid seems to be happy)

went to the shop, tried wii out and weren't blown away by it (the graphics are still at a very basic level (especially when you are used to PS2 or even PS3). Now I know it is supposed to be a totally different concept, but there weren't that many different moves to do either it seems.

So meanwhile waiting for wii2 or 3....

Well, at the end of September I oprdered myself a Nintendo Wii and I am not going to tell you from who but it was a well known retailer over the internet.

On the day of delivery I open the box and inside are three Wii's yep and all for the price of one £179.99

I gave one to my brother, put one away and set the other up on my TV, played it 4 times I think it was, anyway I sold the two I had on eBay for £120 and £140 last week.

I play video games all the time have myself a XBOX 360 and 40 of the latest games but the Wii just did not appeal to me at all, Tiger Woods was fun for the first 18 holes but just too tiring after that

If you want to get a games console which you will play every day and get your moneys worth, go get a XBOX 360, loads of great games out at the moment.

I got both wii and ps3 and thinking of getting 360, I think wii is for bunch of friends who come over for party and wants to do some button smashing. ps3 is for more serious gamer who acctually want to play the game properly and those who enjoy 1080i/p resolution. And I think xbox 360 is better for online play and thats why i'm thinking getting one soon.

For the discerning gamer, the great titles are starting to come through, Super Mario Galaxy etc; as a 'novelty toy' it will get tiresome and may grate on the short-attention span of kiddies these days!

However, if you think there may be longevity where your kids will want to get into proper games, it is a great option and the best value. Nintendo always think out-of-the-box and will want to exploit the novel technology to it's fullest (they've not even scratched the surface yet); so if the kids do get bored, Mr Nintendo will always release original, fun titles to recaptivate the kiddywinkles and drain your bank balance!!

All part of the reason why everyone wants one, perhaps!

Although your 'project wii' has been binned, PS2 is a step in the wrong direction and has devalued badly- cheap games, though!!! - and there is not much eyetoy support. If you get a wii with a novelty game, and a proper, corking, stonking title to get into (has to be Super Mario Galaxy!!), you could be on a winner.

It's your call, I'm getting too involved here!!

All the best with 'helping out' Santa.
