  • New tip shape shared

I'm claiming to be the FIRST to shape a tip as follows; I just received a Aurora tip which is completely unshaped. Long story shortened, instead of dome shaping which if you observe gives the least contact with the cue ball!!. So with this reasoning I first shaped a 45 degree flat surface then hollow ground the contact edge of the tip leaving the top nice and flat (can still see the A stamp). Now when I place the ball against the tip edge it fits into the hollow ground groove which offers maximum contact with the cue ball when applying side.

I've used the tip for about 10 hours now and kind of excited about it. To look at the tip it appears to be domed because of the impacts against the cue ball but I know that the hollow ground shape is cut in allowing more tip-ball contact. ENJOY

Doesnt sound right to me - surely your shape only works on centre ball striking, any side and you will be getting less contact area on the white, not more !
Plus surely someone else must have tried this over the years and found out similar result

I don't get it either. Can you explain differently?

hi cuebru, do u mean that instead of a convex shaped tip, u are using a concave shaped tip?

as what jrc750 mentioned earlier, i imagine it would probably work only with dead centre striking in the middle of the cue ball and if you can get the concave shape to fit the cue ball contour perfectly.

i don't think it will catch on but still, kudos to you for coming up with such an ingenious idea!!

Do you you mean as a capital A without the pointed peak ?

What Fedia was saying I don't have a clue.

                      tip shape

It does work. Sure someone may hav tried it before baring high tec, everything has been done before. First I'll repeat that with a dome against a ball you hav minimum contact. And yes concave instead of convex allows more tip-ball contact. You hav to determine where to place the concave to maximize efficiency.

                        concave tip

i bet it is a bitch to chalk ?

I've just started playing with this shape of tip and chalk it the same as usual. I chalk towards the top of the tip and common sence says that the concave shape will hold more chalk than the dome shape.
