  • What cue is this?

Would you like to venture a guess what cue is this?
And... approx which year it was made?

It is a 3/4 cue, the pin is located on the butt, all brass; while the insert is located on the shaft, brass recessed into ebony with an implex joint collar on the outside.
    Thank you.

Good guess. Very close. I believe this cue maker had worked with Aeon before.

I'm sure its Denis Garrisons Spiro Lock joint and he still has the patent for it after all these years, used on top end Aeons, or old Hunt & O'Byrne cues, and probably from mid 1980's.

I agree. This is certainly spirolock, however it may not be original as many imported cues have A copy of this joint. Denis Garrison may well still have the name rights but the copy joints I,ve see have nothing like the structural integrity of the original for one thing the little round top at the tapered end may easily snap off. These copies fit the current H&O joints. I found a mini butt only yesterday to fit to a clients cue who had lost his mini butt. A range of cues plated 'Cooper' had this joint a short time ago.:snooker:

Agreed, yes there are some poor quality spiro lock style versions around that look similiar to the original but thats about all, so no doubt many variants about.

O'min use something of a similiar style for there sd joints.

Robin Cook has used the original top quality spiro lock joints from Denis in the past as well, he made one for me using one and the cue & joint were top drawer.

I thought it was only Willie Thorne who used that phrase

I would have guessed Aeon as well.I have a 1/2 and4/5 jointed Aeon. The centre joint is Aeon long spindle and the 4/5 is a spirolock, complete with the little black collar in the female part of the joint. The spirolock in your photo is identical to mine,so must be made by Garrison. Please put us out of our misery, pqj .

1986 - the joint i think was designed by gary drage who was with aeon (his father in law) and became sam leisure?

Was it common to see extension socket installed at the butt end in the 80's?
