  • Getting used to a new cue?

Hi guys ive recently purchased a new cue and im playing pretty well with it so far. However there is one thing that isnt quite right and that is i cant generate as much screwback with my new cue as apposed to using my old one.

Is there any reason for this?

Could it be down to the weight of the cue as its slightly different to my old one? So would it be a case of getting used to that?

    Cheers,

    Nick

I've got a new cue too!
    What have you got?

I suppose it could be weight or tip size!

I get my new cue in a couple of months, this is a worry of mine.

What if i didnt like it, what if, what if ???

I would say the tip size, weight and balance point could be down to this, and also mentally now.

        I know it's funny isn't!
Your getting a parris ultimate as I recall; I'm sure it will be perfect!

I've only played with my Tervor White once weight and balence is perfect but it will still take some getting used to I think!

Its a Peradon Century and the tip is the same size as my old one.

I feel the weight is slightly different though i think that could be the problem...

My last cue was a peradon!
            What weight is it?
I know that Peradon don't always label accuratly they use L M H which are a range!
I think a bit of practice and you'll be right!

                Hi Nick,

You might find there is not as much weight in the "butt end" of the cue. My cue is slightly more butt heavy than some and it enables me to generate a lot of cue power with minimum effort.
                Check it out mate.

I suppose it's subjective again though!
I've never been keen on back weighted cues.
Played with my new cue in a pool match last night; bit of a mistake not familiar enough with it yet. The new cue is 16oz 2 1/2oz lighter than my old cue. I tried to lay a snooker hit the ball but it it didn't quite touch a cushion which is a foul at world rules! I got a light cue because I can be heavy handed! More practice needed! Luckily we still won!

Yes it is a Parris Ultimate Watford but im still worried.

Im heavy handed also, i can't roll up to ball unless they are 10feet apart lol

I too got a new cue recently. And so far I have been very happy with it. I'm playing pretty well at the moment (for my standard). The only problem with it is there's a rubbish tip on it when it was bought, and needs replacing. I've shaped it as I want and will wait until the end of the season before replacing it now I think.
                        Cheers

Just finished playing again and im really not too happy with my cue. I cant get as much reaction out of the white ball with this cue.

I think i may take it back...

If you think you'll never be happy take it back but a new cue can take time!
I'm still getting to grips with mine too!

Whenever I get a new cue I spend several months wishing that I hadn't! But you do get used to it.

Getting a new cue is a bit like making love to a beautiful woman, at first you are a bit unsure, you feel under pressure to perform well and it can be mentally exhausting. But after a while you start to get your eye in, you can slide it through with a good rhythmic action and you actually even start to enjoy yourself!!

                              Give it time, nuff said!
