  • eBay Willie Smith British record cue - Hand Spliced

Selling my Willie Smith British record cue, which is quite rare in hand spliced form, I understand.

The cue is 54.25" long, 16.15oz ( marked as 18oz ), with 10mm ferrule and 30mm butt. Balance point at 15".

I don't know the value, due to the length, although 58" one is around £250 apparently.

I know members prefer a price, but I don't know how much the length effects the value, so I'm open to offers.

Cheers Jim, does 3.75" really make that much difference,

or, in your opinion could you say the same about the cue if it was 58" long ?

Quite interested would u take £35 ? I'm after something short for pool this seems spot on although the tip is a little big but can put up with that.

Over the years cues have tended to get a bit longer coś on average people have got taller so 58 in as become a bit of a norm, collectable wise 56 1/2 is ok because the cues were prob a bit smaller at first ,but dave smith is of the impression that a lot of cues were prob made up to 60 ins long initially for export purposes coś its easier to shorten than lengthen even in the early 1900,as a player your cue might be worth more maybe £70 but thats up to interested parties and maybe smaller or junior players.

Hmmm, I think when you are looking for antique cues you want to find a cue of 57-58 inches. The old cues were often shortened because the tip would split (due to no ferrule) and it would need to be shortened and a new tip put on.

So shorter cues are worth less because they have more of the original shaft cut off and have had more use over the years.
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
            I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

              I agree Mythman, although a drop from est £200+ to £35 is a lot for 57/58" --> 54.25" reduction.

I know however that it's only worth what someone will pay for it. Maybe try fleabay next week.

A cue as short as this one is unplayable (for 99.9 % of people) so has zero value as a cue, maybe badge hunters would buy it as Jim says, put it on ebay and see how you do

I think so, but others don't. Andy Hunter from cues'n'views writes about it here :-

                        http://www.cuesnviews.co.uk/andyhunt...illiesmith.htm

In case the link doesn't work, I've also included the relevant bit of his opinion in picture 5 of the original post.

Maybe yes, too short for playing with, but I think a good rare collectors cue. IMHO

No offence taken Dave, I was dissapointed that Jim chose to give his idea on the value with the cue split into cue + badge,

especially just half an hour after my 1st post. This just made out that the cue was worthless, which I and by the look of it

ADR147 don't agree with. Not out to fleece anyone here, just get realistic offers from members/collectors for a rare cue.

Almost certain it would of been longer when made, so no longer original, therefore no longer desirable
Only way to realise it's worth is to try ebay 99p start see what happens
