ball holder

Salam,

I got a " ball holder ( the piece use for marking the ball's position before referee picks it up for cleaning ) " which has two half circles on one side and the normal ball holder (shape) on the other side . Can any one tell what those two half circles are used for? The ball holder has some east asian writtings near these two half circles .

I think the two half circles are used to see if a colour will spot, i.e if the black is potted and the black spot is partially obsctructed by another colour.
