  • Elk alternatives

Hey guys looking for any recommendations on an alternative of using an elk sick of the tip going very hard and seemed to be miscueing more often. My cue shaft is very stiff would a softer tip suit better.

    Thanks

There's a cheap cue seller on eBay who says he'll replace the stock tip with an elkmaster 'pro', for the very tidy sum of an extra 15 notes- good work if you can get it.

Anyway, aren't all elks the same?

pro could be the ones tweeters made especially for ronnie apparently that are harder and last longer, as well as being more consistent.

Those Ronnie tips are garbage, had one, didn't last six weeks , the whole tip failed ,not good.

I totally agree. There's no point spending a lot of money on tips laminated etc. press an elk overnight and you have a great playing tip for low cost.

Clubs, blasts, clubs. Pubs tend to specialise in screw in tips and pioneer chalk - a winning combination if ever i saw one.

Talking of scavenging, those of us that play american pool too (spit) can recycle those tips when they need replacing by cutting them off and putting them onto their snooker cues. Works great.

It's a shame you can't recycle technique to hit a ton as well. Ah, nevermind.

Press a rough file or tip tapper into the tip, don't rub or scrape with the file, just press it into the tip to loosen the chalk that's embeded in that makes the tip go hard. Tips should then last an awful lot longer.

I'll never have the technique to be a maxi man like yourself, blasts. Why don't you show us all how to do one? Tell you what, if i were a monster cueist like you, I'd be putting videos up all day long.

If you don't want to press your own Elks or buy pressed elks, I'd go for a Buffalo Diamond Plus off ebay. Very consistent across the box and a lovely touch in the balls, plenty of screw. It plays exactly like a good elk. It should cost you about £2 off ebay, not the £5 plus the rip-off merchants are charging for alternative single layer tips.

The other good thing about this tip is that it does not clog up or gloss. I can play ten or twenty shots without chalking, then chalk and it accepts the chalk fine, no shiny surface. And it doesn't turn to tissue paper or turn into a rock. Simply, it's the best value best tip on planet if you don't want an elk but do enjoy how they play.

Mine collapsed to the side Neil, it looked like the leaning tower of Pisa, I can't even blame my poor fitting technique as Dave Couttes fitted it.
Although it was only a sample of one lol, but for the price compared to a normal elk ,they should all be of good quality.
