  • Buying a cue, sellers should display photos of 3/4 joints and butt joints.

I recently bought a 3/4 jointed cue online without having it actually in my hand with the 3/4 joint being a brass vacuum joint and the butt extension joint being a s.d. joint.
Neither of these joints are compatible with my telescopic extender or Rileys/BCE 9 inch smart extender.
I don't mind having bought the cue as its a nice cue and i'm glad to have it but why don't cue makers and cue sellers display photos of their 3/4 joints and butt extension joints, it would just make life easier.

Due to this very problem, I have been thinking of buying a universal push on extension as it would fit almost any snooker cue.

Yes FKhan I'd never thought about buying a universal push on extension before until I received the above cue yesterday, the fact that even you have this problem as I think you're much more into cues than I am says it all really.

It's so hopefully you will buy extentions off them as well.

I agree trains, they could all easily use the same SD joints in the butt end but they try to have their own so they can make more money out of us. I'm with fkhan and use a push on extention, it fits every cue.

Just for the record my three regular cues that I like and am perfectly happy playing with are two Rileys 57 inch 3/4 cues and a Britannia 57 inch 3/4 cue, all cheap as chips cues but damn good for me and work well and feel good.
Currently waiting for a ferrule in the post for the second Riley cue.

Quiet a few extensions use a pin you can change at low cost. You need to be careful if you want to protect the existing joint and use something to protect the thread and use pliers or molegrips etc to unscrew the brass joint. Then replace with the one you need for 7 quid. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172637718...Bk9SR4Csrvi_YQ

I haven't seen this before. Do we have to remove the existing joint in the extension and replace it with this one by gluing it to the extension?

If you have standard blue plastic twist grip extns the y should just unscrew and the new one fits the same size (mine did anyway). Worst case I did the same on my mini butt but it was smaller so I had to file that out to enlarge and then glue with some epoxy glue.

                    Just check it unscrews first!

I use sd joints that are compatible with omin cues and advertise this in all sales, therefore the customer has notice and cannot moan about it afterwards. I also use vacuum joints for the cue, I find the female joints with the internal thread the best.

Are the top joints stainless Steel and the bottom ones brass or is it just the light? I would quite like stainless ones if I had a 3/4 cue. Those spiro lock joints are pretty common now, most Thai cue makers use them, so that helps.

I think quick release brass joint might be the laymans selling name to the customer, it might have a manufacturing name like Whitworth joint or something like that, its no big deal though.
